Mark Gatiss was two rows in front of us at Cabaret last night

I feel that ‘we’d appreciate it if you didn’t’ isn’t strong enough, but it must be hard to police without an interval as others have said. Luckily the audience’s behaviour was okay when I went!

I didn’t hear any laughing at that line when I saw it

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it. I think the only other Pinter I’ve seen is No Man’s Land, and although I enjoyed the performances in that I found Betrayal much more accessible and for me a much better play. I loved the simple staging and thought having the third character constantly on stage was very effective, particularly in one scene where Robert is sat right to Jerry in a scene with Jerry and Emma. All three actors were fantastic.

I saw this last night in a full house. I thought Johnny and Kit’s performances were great and the chemistry between them was fantastic. I agree that maybe the desert reveal was unnecessary but overall I really enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend.

Has anyone ever exchanged tickets through Nimax? I’ve booked for True West but ideally would like to exchange for the following week. I’ve seen online that the exact same seats are available on the new date so there’d be no price difference, but my confirmation email says ‘tickets cannot be exhanged or refunded’.

At the matinee for An Ideal Husband in Bath today, there was someone rustling sweet wrappers very loudly in the front row. It went on for so long and was so loud that Freddie Fox actually had to tell them to stop!

It doesn’t matter if she’s a size 4 or a size 22, a reviewer shouldn’t comment on an actor’s weight

I went a few weeks ago and yes the queue does move quickly so I wouldn’t say you need to be there a full hour before. Yes the main difference between the programme and the brochure is the photographs. Are you seeing both parts in one day? Just so you’re aware, they don’t start selling the brochure until Part 2, so don’t worry if you only see the programme at the first play!

When I saw Romeo and Juliet at the Garrick I remember feeling sorry for the usher who repeated to every one as he was checking their tickets ‘Just so you’re aware, Richard Madden isn’t performing this evening’. He must have been saying it in his sleep! I completely agree that you book to see the production and not a specific performer, although I do understand the natural disappointment if you’ve been eager to see someone in particular.

If they're searching bags, but you've got a jacket pocket capable of holding a bottle of water..... They give you a pat down there (only theatre I can remember that happening in). It depends which security person you go to, I was patted down for Part 1 but not Part 2, and it was the opposite for my friend.

Thanks all, I was there yesterday. We were allowed bottled water but I did have to sacrifice a cereal bar, even though I’d been sneaky and put in my coat pocket, haha!

Finally seeing this this week! Just wondering how strict they are with taking bottled water into the theatre? Sorry, I know this must have been answered earlier in the thread but 94 pages is a lot to search through!

Plus, did the killer kill just the one girl or were there others? I really like Strike and Robin but I'm not impressed with the plots. (I haven't read the books so perhaps it is better explained in the books). In the book he definitely attempts to attack other women, I can’t remember whether he succeeds or not. The plots are definitely better developed in the books.

They definitely rushed the reveal and explanation in this! From what I understand Strike realised that the photo must have been staged due to the plant in the background of the picture and the clothes worn (thick coats being worn next to a spring/summer plant). That somehow led him on to realising that Laing was posing as the other man. Like you I’ve read the book but a while ago and I can’t remember more details! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the adaptations of all the books but I really hope they make them all 3 episodes from now on because the reveal and explanation always feel so rushed.

I think I preferred Never Forget. Yes it was a cheesy jukebox musical and I’m not saying it deserved a really long run in the West End but as a Take That fan it was a really fun evening out.

Take That excitement aside, I have mixed feelings about the show but mostly liked it. I liked the set and thought it worked really well, and I also really liked the story. There were some funny moments, especially the caretaker/roadie/policeman. However, I think parts of the script were weak. I cry stupidly easily but I didn’t shed a tear at all when the sad event happens in act one, even though I felt at times that the script was trying desperately to tug at heartstrings. The two generations singing Back for Good was lovely however. I think what annoyed me the most was that they always refer to the band as ‘The Band’, and it just didn’t sound natural because in a normal conversation you’d just name the group. I suppose it’s trying to be clever with the link to ‘the (wrist)bands’ the girls/women wear. Also, as someone else mentioned earlier, they aren’t meant to be Take That but their logo is used at times! Overall I did quite like it but I think it could have been so much better.

Ah I haven’t been following the show on social media so it was a surprise to me, I didn’t think they’d bother coming to Wales! I’d say it was a surprise to the majority of people around me too, and other friends I knew were there.

Yep I’m sure you’re right. Looking at the WMC website weekends are sold out but good availability on weekdays. Selfishly I’m glad it hasn’t been selling well if it meant I got to see the real deal!

I’ll post my (mixed) thoughts on the show tomorrow but Take That showed up for the curtain call at the first night in Cardiff tonight, amazing surprise!

I can remember my mum and I being disappointed on our first ever Broadway visit when we couldn’t find any ice cream in the interval, neither of us had any idea that this was a British tradition until then! Glad you had such a good trip, Elle!

Dawnstar Yep I did all m GCSEs and A Levels in Welsh. Terminology is an important point, I went to an English university but as I did MFL I knew most of the grammatical terms in French/Spanish as well anyway, which avoided the problem. I assume that in subjects like science that teachers give the terminology in English as well, especially to students they know are hoping to study outside Wales, if they don’t they should! The Matthew Yes that sounds about right. I did quickly try and find some stats yesterday but it was too busy in work for me to look properly! I think I’m right in saying that when you look at age ranges more and more children now have Welsh skills, so stats will hopefully up a bit for the next generation. @emicardiff I think you’re right about people sometimes hesitating to raising any legitimate concerns, on both sides. Welsh speakers can be quite defensive (I definitely include myself here) because the language does get attacked fairly regularly (by attacked I mean things like ‘what’s the point/it doesn’t make sense/it’s a dead language’ etc) and of course we take that personally. However, I think that any Welsh speaker I know would understand that as you say it needs to be a gradual move towards more people speaking Welsh and more money and training is needed.
