Ok, so I’m putting this here because this wasn’t a play and people criticised me for putting the Hare series on the plays section which I did cos he is a playwright. Don’t go there.
So Cormoron: Will someone tell me about the photo and the plant please? I have actually read the book but some time ago and can’t find it so it was prob on my kindle which is run down now. This was a bit rushed I thought and I didn’t get it. Maybe I was reaching for a biscuit...
I thought this whole shebang was better than the Hare because it was not dependent on the actors but the actual words worked. I loved the characters by the way and hope that either Rowling keeps 'em coming or she allows someone talented like the writer who did put it into telly version, to continue with these characters.

They definitely rushed the reveal and explanation in this! From what I understand Strike realised that the photo must have been staged due to the plant in the background of the picture and the clothes worn (thick coats being worn next to a spring/summer plant). That somehow led him on to realising that Laing was posing as the other man. Like you I’ve read the book but a while ago and I can’t remember more details! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the adaptations of all the books but I really hope they make them all 3 episodes from now on because the reveal and explanation always feel so rushed.

I spent quite a while with husband going "so....there was the nasty child abuser living with the woman with kids and he had nothing to do with it, and then there was the other man with the walking frame who was ALSO living with the cut up girl's sister and then he was in disguise with a beard. And Strike knew because he had knicked a certificate from up North when he was the low life that robbed that woman before he headed down South and taken his name...." And he was in the picture on a weekend away when girl was killed (that was his alibi) but the helpful Strike uncle left a very dead looking plant on Strike's mum's grave that was the same type as in the photo in full bloom....handy! Blimey, it took a bit of untangling there! Plus it would have been better if Hans from Peep show wasn't in it!!!! I love the main two actors, even though it is near impossible to tell why Robyn marries such a creepy/pathetic/controlling man.....leave now Robyn!

Thank you! I’m almost there now. I didn’t remember about the alibi thing.

Wouldn't it have made more sense if the man with the walking frame had a false beard? Wouldn't you know if you were living with someone who wore a false beard? Plus, did the killer kill just the one girl or were there others?
I really like Strike and Robin but I'm not impressed with the plots. (I haven't read the books so perhaps it is better explained in the books).

(I haven't read the books so perhaps it is better explained in the books). In the book he definitely attempts to attack other women, I can’t remember whether he succeeds or not. The plots are definitely better developed in the books.
