I live 3 hours from NY. For the cost of a ticket to Hamilton on Broadway, to where I can actually tell that there are real humans on the stage (plus train fare to NY) I can: subscribe to our local national touring company season (see all the plays/musicals plus Hamilton) plane tickets to London (via Icelandair), Airbnb for 5 nights, and at least 4 performances of play tickets, not Hamilton, (bought in advance or in previews) in London.
Guess which one I'm going for?
I will see a wonderful National Touring company production of Hamilton (2018). And my subscriber tickets are very nice. Spend about week in LONDON!! And, thanks to this forum, get decent tickets to wonderful productions. Yes, what I do during the day and evening is more important to where I lay my head down at night (as long as clean and safe, I am used to BNB's so sharing bathroom doesn't skeeve me out). And yes, I will eat local, inexpensive but ENJOY.
This is what this forum has shown me. I am able to plan an incredible vacation to London July 2017 (who knew I would love theatre this much). And then even start planning AFTER that.
After adding the costs then the total London vacation might be a couple of hundred dollars over the Broadway, train tickets but I am soooo good with that. Plus I get the extra plays/musicals on National touring plus tickets in London.

I'm surprised there are so many tickets available for April on website. Is this a slow period? I'm hoping that this will continue and I will be able to get more convenient tickets in July and can return my Aug 2nd tickets. I will continue to check frequently and then possibly spend morning for day I really want in the returns line. But if worse comes to worse I still have my original tickets

Rather reminds me of our (US) recent Presidential election. Some people voted for a person who was quite specific in saying that he wanted to do and then those same people are so surprised and dismayed that he's trying to do exactly what he said he was going to do.
That's as far as the comparison goes as I'm sure that Emma Rice isn't an orange haired baboon like our present President.

Watched Dumb and Dumber last night and they r from RI! I don't think we will ever live that one down. From Providence too. We are a proud little state. My favorite RI historical fact is that when RI was founded in 1636 (late by your standards) it was based, not only on freedom of religion but also freedom FROM religion.

I saw in a huge theatre in Cleveland, Ohio. Really enjoyed the show but it suffered being in a large auditorium. The show was just not big enough to work at that level. Our local theatre (well, here we do it theater) is beautiful. But 3100 seats so we will probably have the same issue. It's because of this board (found it while researching upcoming July vacation in London) that I signed up for my first season subscription just last week. Here is the link it: www.ppacri.org/about.

My London vacation air tickets are 15 Jul - 8 Aug 2017. By haunting the HPCC website I was able to secure nice tickets for 2 Aug. My issue is that I'm trying to clear last week of vacation for a possible (won't know till I'm already in London) detour to Tunis.
It will be so much better for me if I'm able to get tickets for an earlier date. Does this sound feasible to you?
Wed 19-Jul go to returns early in morning and try for 2 play tickets for that day (I'm solo so need ticket for 1 person). Will be prepared to pay premium. I can then return my tickets for 2 Aug. I will still be haunting website between now and then. There are 3 dates that would be good for me.
I'm fully prepared to be there stupidly early to try to secure ticket. My most important question for this part is.... is there a WC available??? :0 :0

My favourite trick for interval drinks at ATG venues is to use their happy hour...runs from 90 until 60 mins before the show and drinks are half price - I pop in around 6 for a half price drink and interval order, and then bail into the Wetherspoons* next door once the offer stops to carry on *other varieties of pub are available Now I know to show up for Hamlet at 6 pm.

I don't have any experience at larger theatres to say. The regional productions I've been to just had the rush at interval to bar.

Does it save time to pre-pay for drinks at plays? Or will the line for pre-paid be longer than the regular lines at interval?
Thanks!

The awards had nothing to do with me wanting to get tickets for this (snagged them before the awards). Over the years I have developed a connection with the characters, both in the books and movies. Gave the first 3 books to my children for Xmas when they were in early 20's. They looked at them like I was crazy but ended up reading them all before New Years. They were hooked. And then the grandkids made their appearance and Grandma was is Potter heaven this past summer when I took my grandson and granddaughter to Universal Studios Orlando and spent 3 days at Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. We all three had our wands from Ollivanders.
I just wish they could be with me to see the journey continue. Yes, I guess I am a Potter Head

Apologies if this has been covered before and it's not bad behaviour but a considerable annoyance: people (and I have to say it's nearly always women) sitting in the seat directly in front who find it necessary to drape their (usually bulky) coat over the back of the seat. This seriously reduces ones leg/knee room and seems to happen most often where there is little to begin with e.g. the amphitheatre at the Royal Opera House. What's wrong with using the cloakroom or putting it under the seat? Oh, I hate that too. I usually ask them to move it. If not, it's almost inevitable my feet will end up on the coat at some point, regardless of how uncomfortable a position I have to get in to do so. I so love this. ETA: I'm so taking notes on everything I CAN NOT do when I finally get to my first London play in July. Except the little "squeal". I don't think there is anyway I am going to be able to stop it when I first sit down.

I love his books. If he reads half as good as he writes it will be a wonderful night.

My team won the quiz run by our choir (with the I think excellent team name 'Eddie Quizard') and choir raised £370 for Teenage Cancer trust. So not a bad Thursday. My Friday is brought to you by coffee, and being thankful the there's hardly anyone in the office on a Friday. I'm the only one in my office right now (Arizona so behind you by 8 hours) and you can see what I'm doing - Board surfing

Baemax is correct, technically, it's theft. I have changed my seats, but I've always asked either an usher or the box office before doing so. That's the right thing to do. If you do move without permission, at least behave - I've noted a correlation between unauthorised moves and scummy behaviour to follow, is all I'm saying Considering all the warnings in posts about watching your behavior I've seen on the board all I can think is that all of you must have witnessed some really rude and inconsiderate things. I promise you all my mother brought me up right . And I will try to control a little "squeal" of amazement that I am actually at a London play when I sit down to my first play in your wonderful town.

I went to buy the soundtrack to this and noticed that the London Theatre Orchestra and Cast recording has less songs than the Broadway cast recording. Missing is "Go Into Your Dance", "Getting Out of Town" and "Sunnyside to Every Situation". Sorry if this is a stupid question but does the current play have those songs in it? I looked on the theatre website and it only listed the "iconic" songs, not all the songs in the play
Thank you

Had a very boring day, only for it to take dramatic turn with someone getting shot out the back of my house tonight. The world is really messed up. The only way that could be more messed up was if your head of government was Donald Trump. Oh wait, that's my reality.......

Is it ever proper to move to a better seat if it is empty? Easy enough to check online if it is available maybe? I've had people tell me they would never do it and, equally nice people says of course they do.

There is someone who lives in North Carolina in the US (I'm mostly in Rhode Island) anyway, it is a long way from where I live. We have the same email address except she puts her middle initial in hers. I am forever getting her emails ranging from school events for her children to doctors appointment reminders. I know WAY too much about this person and their life. She must work for a bank as I even was sent some interoffice emails that a co-worker of hers forwarded to her (well, ended up being to me) that was about customer accounts ! Just lately I know she has investigated Botox, one of her kids is going on a field trip soon and her yearly dental exam is due soon. Too funny!!! Does she get your things?? I doubt it. In order for that to happen someone would have to insert the correct letter of her middle name between my first and last name. That's a lot harder than just leaving her middle initial out like they seem to love to do. ETA - When it looks like it might be important I either reply and give them the correct email address or I just forward to her. I did get sick of it once and filled out, rather rudely, a survey that had been mistakenly sent to me.

What's more ridiculous is a shoe seller that I once bought a special type of shoe polish from is still sending me physical catalogues, the cost of which has far exceeded the value of the tiny order I placed with them several years ago.LOL that's karma for you! And maybe now is the time to apologise to the person who has the phone number one digit away from mine, that I give to every single website that insists on my filling in that particular box.
