I think he's in the next 2 episodes of Decline and Fall, tonight and next Friday. (BBC Evelyn Waugh thing with a surprisingly good Jack Whitehall and an hilarious Douglas Hodge.) RIP.

What a shock! I saw him at the Almeida for King Charles III but missed him in the West End due to his broken collar bone. One of the reasons I am so shocked is that it was Pamela Miles who was out of action, not him.
RIP

Wow, that really is a shock. Only thing I was lucky enough to see him in live was Educating Rita and he was a wonderful Frank. Really sad, and he must've been in rehearsals recently too? What with his wife recently pulling out of the play, it's extremely sad circumstances.

So sad. I always admired his work. So wonderful at being a horrid character.

Ironic he was about to star in a play Death of a Salesman, which I was hoping to catch.
This should really be in the cast and creative section, but it is Tim Piggott Smith.

Do you think maybe you could spell his name correctly, at least in the title of the thread? Sad. He was a versatile and splendid actor.

I was sorry to read this. I remember seeing him as a very good Higgins 10 years ago, opposite a pre=Downton Michelle Dockery. And yes, awfully ironic to die just bfore Death Of A Salesman.(I couldn't help wondering what a Death Of A Salesman Goes Wrong play could be made out of this!)

Very sad. I had met him at the Almeida because he had come to see Hamlet as well at the end of February.

That is sad news, saw his Higgins ten years ago too and Brutus in Julius Caesar, Frank in Educating Rita, and more. Seems to have been very sudden and unexpected which makes it even more heartbreaking.

RIP
Had the honour of seeing him giving a frightening performance in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. I can not think of another production where considering leaving during the interval would be considered a good thing.

Very sad news indeed. Especially so soon after he collected his OBE.
It will be interesting now to see the TV film of King Charles III (IF it still is going ahead, as I'm sure it has finished filming now...?), not only because I love the play but I'm guessing it is his final performance.

Sad news. A good actor. Definitely saw him in Pygmalion and probably in other stuff. Anyone recall him doing any Pirandello?

Very sad, he was a terrific actor. Someone I know who'd worked with him on a couple of occasions said he was delightfully lovely, which ultimately I guess is a much nicer way to be remembered no matter how good the body of work may be.

Very sad. I saw him in Pygmalion, See How They Run and King Charles III and he was terrific in all of them.

Yes, apparently this was completed. He also has a few other films to be released

I concur theatremonkey though it was David Rintoul rather than Angus Wright wasn't it, but what a lovely idea.

Oh good. How fortunate we are that it was completed before he passed, especially for people unable to see him perform the role on stage.
