I doubt Mean Girls will get many Tony awards in 2018. The Band's Visit will win Best Musical and Score. So will Katrina Link for Best Actress. Best Supporting Actress will probably be Lindsay Mendez from Carousel. There's no Best Actor role in Mean Girls. At best it might win Best Supporting Actor for the guy who plays Damian. I think the Best Supporting Actress could go to Renee Fleming as well but I expect either Kate or Ashley to pick up a nomination in the category. Agree about the first two predictions and your last for sure although I am really hoping that they will work on Regina's character to get Taylor at least a nomination. I expect Tina to pick up a nomination for the book if not the win but agree that it will be hard to win any other major award. I am just really hoping they'll do SRO or rush, would love to see it but the prices from $99 with those booking fees are just above even my Broadway threshold.

For those who were there and have also listened to the OBC recording - how does Lafayette compare? I know some who have inherited the role have struggled a bit to keep up with the speed of Daveed’s rap style (which isn’t surprising- the man seems superhuman)! I think Jason didn't struggle with the speed at all. His French accent was also pretty consistent already and quite strong. That said, it will be hard to measure up to the overall impression of Daveed's rapping.

Just on the way back from seeing this tonight. Way too emotional for a weeknight; I was not ready for that at all. Me and pretty much all of the audience in very real tears come the finale. I was genuinely taken aback by the twists in the tale so if like me you're not familiar with the material, please don't look it up. Kelsey Grammar isn't the best singer but his charm is immeasurable and his performance unbearably effective and poignant, a truly great performance. Jamie Muscato is exhausting to watch and is surely a bonafide star in the making. The direction was very clever and slick, and the production as a whole is truly impressive. What a wonderful way to spend an evening! I was there last night as well and you really captured what I thought of the show and the experience. Absolutely loved how the audience got so emotional at the end.

Yeah now that the dust has settled and awards season is approaching, it's probable that Dee will score a lead actress in a musical nomination and Staunton will be honoured instead for her work in Virginia Woolf on the drama side. And yes Bennett is without a doubt winning a third Olivier for her explosive I'm Still Here. Not sure about the men. Nomination at best for the men but I don't think they stand a realistic chance at winning. It will be interesting to see how the female categories will play out versus Hamilton.

No comments on Ms. John as Anjelica? Is she giving her long-predicted, Olivier Award performance? She better gets a nomination at least! She sounded a bit sick or she was holding back but we all know what she's capable of when she's fully healthy so I have no doubt she's going to be blowing minds at press night. Acting was nuanced, can't wait to see her again in January. I have to admit that for me the strongest part of the show was the supporting actors - Cleve, Obioma and Tarrin owned their respective roles. I really enjoyed Jason's take on his roles although my friend next to me didn't seem to agree with me. And of course, the choreography/ensemble. I have seen a few bootlegs but wow, it's quite something to see it live. Audience was on fire too, feel really lucky that I got re-scheduled for tonight.

Thanks everyone! I was hoping most people would go for the evening but it seems like I underestimated the fandom.

Does anybody have some experience with cast change day seating? I was hoping to get two tickets for the matinee and was wondering if getting to the theatre at 5 am would be enough or too late?

I got to see the show last week and it's incredible, I only wish it would be longer! The cast is the nicest, most humble one you'll find in New York. While I do agree partially that it could be an odd choice to give Bess a solo, I personally thought it made sense considering that the character went through a fundamentally different journey in Gander. And it would have been a shame not to let Jenn Colella sing a solo.
Audience seemed rather ordinary to me, minus the lady who stood next me to in the stage door queue - she grew up in Gander which we all thought was pretty cool. Then a few days later, real-life Kevin and his family got lost around the Tony's red carpet and happened to ask me if I knew the directions. I

I don't get it.. But anyway who is the standby? I would love to hear or see how he does. I believe he's been on once already (and not just last night). I saw Colton on Saturday - he did a decent job but having seen Ben in a bootleg, there was a massive gap between performances. He has potential but I felt that he sometimes struggled to remain consistent, both vocally and acting-wise and the performance was not as deep as Ben's. I do agree that it felt like he tried (or was asked?) to copy Ben in most scenes. I would have loved to see Ben but considering how difficult it was to get SRO during Tony's week, I am 100% happy that I just got to see the show. Rachel Bay Jones alone would have made all the hassle worth it.

It's closing in May. Shocked as to how quickly turn around is on Broadway. Not even open for 2 months, that's so rare in London I was planning to see it in June but knew as soon as the Tony noms came out that it wouldn't survive which is quite a bummer. Broadway feels much more commercial and business-oriented than London - if a show is not performing well and doesn't get Tony nominations around this time of the year, it usually means quick death. Box office performance was poor to begin with and only got worse once the reviews came out. I agree that it feels that the season was extremely busy which didn't help the show either.

Jenna Russel for Helen, yes? I really hope whoever is casting the show reads this.

Saw this yesterday on my super-double-bargain £5 TodayTix with referral code ticket! Stalls seat so didn't get the full design impact but, for me, the 'up close' thing with faces outweighs that (especially when I've left my distance glasses behind!). Agree totally with others who have said this had awards written all over it, if not for Harry Potter and the All-Conquering Play. Cherry Jones was a joy, but I particularly enjoyed the scene between Kate O'Flyn and Brian J Smith - Laura opening like a flower under the gentle warmth of The Gentleman Caller's attention, delicate and fragile as her glass menagerie. Beautifully handled by both. I suspect that's where I went wrong, chose circle seats for design when should have gone stalls for up close with faces, when will I learn. This one has grown in my estimation since I've seen it. Depends on the stalls seats though...I saw it yesterday from front row and hated the seat. The small table in the front blocked the sofa and didn't see anything from the floor, probably for the first time in my life, I wished I was in the circle. Seeing them up and close was nice but didn't always make up for the frustration. On the bright side for everyone who was slightly unhappy about the seats, they filmed yesterday's performance for the V&A archives...really hope the V&A does a screening like they did for Hangmen and not just archive it with no public access.

I tend to agree about the sound issues. I had a great seat in Row F of the stalls but couldn't help wondering that people further back might not be as OK about it. Otherwise an amazing night - I've been to cast changes and closing nights but the amount of people crying in the audience after Defying Gravity was something I've never seen before.

I almost screamed out loud at the Rachel John casting news. Huge HUGE fan of her work (and my friends and I have been praying for her to get that role forever now). Brilliant news. Glad I've got tickets. Same here. Never been this excited for casting announcement! She really, really deserved to get such a role!

Just discovered the cast recording and it's definitely my thing... I can see me getting hooked on the score! Any update about a transfer here?! Not entirely sure...the producers are definitely wanting it to come over and it has been looking at theatres. However I've heard from 2 different reliable sources that this and another show are both "confirmed" for the same venue, so I think it's still a wait-and-see. Anyway it's clearly a case of when, not if. I heard the same rumors and I really hope they are true because I am kicking myself for not seeing it in New York last year... Cassie Compton spoke about Waitress earlier this month at the Wedding Singer Hippodrome concert (she performed She Used to be Mine) and it really sounded like the transfer was happening sooner than later.

Wow, I am quite surprised to hear the negativity about the speech. She clearly spoke on behalf of the company but meant what she said or had to say - I was sitting in the front row of the stalls and she had tears in her eyes when they walked off stage. Nobody was forced to applaud after it but everyone did. Otherwise the production and her performance is fantastic, especially in Act 2 - I was with a group of friends and we will be back day seating again. You're only saying that because you agree with her. If someone had stepped forward and congratulated Trump you'd have been outraged. Also, what is the point of her moaning to a UK audience ? We didn't vote for him. I do agree with her, indeed and I fully believe "moaning to an UK audience" is really not what was happening last night at the NT... I doubt anyone will find a theatre speaking up for Trump considering his views on arts and values that are generally represented in the theatre community.
