2h45 isn’t exactly short! It’s on the longer side… It’s only 2 hours 30 (and they have a long interval). I was at the 1pm show yesterday and was out at 3:30pm (which meant I could walk over to the 4pm showing of Jersey Boys with 10 minutes to spare). Theyve definitely tightened up since the Haymarket run then - that used to start at 7.45 and not come down until 10.30!

I haven't been to Wicked stage door in a looooooooong time, but don't they usually have barriers up, so cast can choose to walk down the line or otherwise they sneak out at the top? Doesn't stop fans from running after them anyway, but that is usually what used to happen, back in the OG and second cast of Wicked days. LOL Swankified and on-brand metal borders , yes And oh to have been alive when the show first transferred XD I was just sick in my mouth 🤣 I went to previews and saw Idina 3 times and am now feeling my age!

We saw him in the interval and realised who it was. Am wondering if wearing a motorcycle helmet to the theatre would usually get you a mention in the ‘bad behaviour at a show’ thread? But otherwise…ICONIC (and I hope I’m wearing a floor length Pucci print gown when I’m 71.) We also spotted Rusty Egan. Who else was in? I feel very conflicted that Marilyn wasn’t there (assumption based on Marilyn’s insta/behaviour.) I am pretty sure there were other notable people in the audience although I didn't recognise anyone. But you know when you see someone and think "I am sure you are someone!" there were a few like that. Boy George sat in the stalls for Act 1 dressed in a gold sparkly jacket and a very tall sparkly black hat. Another culprit for the "bad behaviour" thread under different circumstances. It was quite funny when people were asking Philip for selfies as the organisers were trying to get everyone back into their seats for Act 2 to start but he was causing a blockage with everyone crowding around. A man asked for a selfie with his friend/partner and Philip told the one taking the photo the best angle to take the picture. He then asked to see the picture and get the guy to zoom in on his face, wasnt happy with the result so made him take the picture again. Brilliant! that wasn’t boy George, that was Boy George experience - the impersonator

Yes, just saw. What an absolute disaster. Fine when its a couple of people but when it is the whole lead cast it seems like a bit of a piss take. I totally respect that people get unwell and that people go on holiday, but a decent company manager can normally mitigate from it all happening at the same time. Hey ho, will just have to get drunk instead. I’m struggling to see how people being sick at the same time is nothing more than human biology? If one person gets sick and has been in contact with someone else they can easily spread it, ie the common cold, flu, covid… how can a decent company manager stop people getting sick? And if someone is on holiday when another lead gets sick, should the company manager order that person to come home from their holiday?

I saw the title and for a millisecond i thought it was about Next To Normal. One day. But people would want to see Next to Normal and would happily pay 30 odd squid. Why give people what they want?! Good luck in selling this. Ive heard positive things about a recent cheerleading doc on Netflix but I suspect they are poles / pom poms apart Personally even though I’d love to see next to normal again I’m rather pleased we’re getting some new work…and have a theatre like the turbine which is dedicated to new work.

The casting breakdown suggests that the director wants to completely flip it on its head which suggests Elle isn’t likely to be a blonde White girl. Have you got a copy of the casting breakdown? This is an excerpt taken from the Margot, Serena, Pilar breakdown: “Margot, Serena, Pilar / Greek Chorus Leaders - Elle’s bffs from the sorority who also appear as the Greek-Chorus-come-pop-group voices in her head. They embody the power of unbridled femme-ness. All three should be great singers, dancers, and comic actors. Charismatic as heck. (F3-F5 belt; in their 20s; various ethnicities, definitely not all cis women - perhaps not all of them use exclusively ‘she/her pronouns’ - but all have ‘femme-ness’ as a crucial part of their identity in some way).“

Isn’t The Other Palace an off west end venue? If so then how can the cast be making their west end debuts??

Waddingham is totally dream casting but can’t see it happening. More likely to be someone like Jenna Russell (although would be miscast IMO) or Mazz Murray. Have to say, in today’s world of favouring diverse options, an actress of colour such as Sharon D Clarke or Rachel John’s names will likely be thrown around.

Forgive me if I’m wrong but isn’t it part of the cult that adults play teens in this show? Like, wasn’t the original film full of people far too old to pass and that’s part of the ‘joke’??

Came across this on Twitter and thought I’d share on here. Got a few big west end names in and I’ve heard some of Joey’s music before, Jeremy Jordan and Natalie Weiss sang on his albums. Looks like it’s streaming in a couple weeks. www.stream.theatre/season/83“ Get lost in theatrical magic as we see this brand new musical by Joey Contreras come to life in one exhilarating feature film, produced by Future Spotlight Productions. Our love lives are constantly in pieces. Shifting in and out of feeling fully complete. But you never know how a single spark one day can unlock a new you, so we make a choice at the crossroad, we say yes to the coffee date, and wherever that leads, we learn to embrace the journey. Could it be another New York love story? Kyle Birch (Austyn), Amy Di Bartolomeo (Alex), Hiba Elchikhe (Sam), Jordan Luke Gage (Grey), Ross Harmon (Charlie), Beccy Lane (Jael), Danielle Steers (River), and Luke Street (Hunter), with Erin Bell, Millie Cranston, Jack Dargan, Megan Cerys Holland, Rhianna Richards, and Jason Leigh Winter as the ensemble. Directed by Louis Rayneau, Choreographed by Rachel Sargent, Musical Direction by Edward Court, Videography by Fabio Santos & Sound Design by Zachary Woodman. Run Time : 80 Mins (approx.) Ticket Price : £15.00 plus £3.00 transaction fee”

I think a big reason why BOM has done so well over here is because of the British love for satire. And this is satirical about more things than African people. The big question is whether this is still appropriate after a huge shift in our culture and awareness of racism, and whether people that found this funny 5 years ago (because of it’s silly, satirical and jokey view on genuine people and their cultural differences, I don’t think people sit at this show and ‘laugh at Black people’, they laugh at the characters’ quirks and punchy one liners) will feel comfortable laughing at this in 2021.

Especially now more than ever, the West End is driven by commercial producers and profits - so the 4 show weekend is a way of maximising that. And if anything, giving performers two days off rather than one will benefit them in terms of work/life balance and recovery. Yes a two show day is more demanding so 4 shows in 2 days will be a slog but having two days off after (performing 4 full shows at the weekend rather than performing a show to an almost empty house on a Monday) will greatly improve the quality, IMO. The thing that may prevent a four show weekend is the prospect of actually doing four shows back to back. That has to be tough vocally. I can only think of certain roles that would warrant this - Jean Valjean, Elphaba, and some of the really tough dancing shows. West End standard performers have trained their whole entire life to do 8 shows a week so changing that schedule won’t have too much of an effect for performers with good vocal technique.

Something about being dark Mon/Tues but double show days at the weekend. Might be a bugger to get past Equity but it does make sense in terms of maximising revenue/minimising outlay. I believe it has already been negotiated by equity that there will be no additional pay for Sunday performances for a period of time. Yup, this is correct. The view is that for some shows Mondays and Tuesdays will be dark, then 2 shows Wednesday, 1 Thurs & Fri, and a 4 show weekend 2x sat and 2x sun. Makes sense to me!

I think it’s exactly what Jodie Comer could do in order to make her a more likeable, approachable celebrity. No it wouldn’t necessarily do anything for her acting career but these days even more than ever, actors aren’t just actors anymore.

Just watched this - unfortunately I thought it was quite miscast. Enjoyed it and they’re all super talented performers but don’t think any of the performances sat in the actors’ bodies - although this is probably more to do with the fact they are playing ‘real’ people and they have not had multiple shows to cement the performance. Susan’s lines are really really funny - funnier than I remember, whilst Jenna does this well I don’t think she’s quirky enough for Susan.
I wasn’t crazy on the production either - plastic water bottles dotting around the frame, choppy scene changes....but am sure this will get better the more of these productions are ‘staged’.
All in all I enjoyed it and am quite happy to have spent money on a ticket to see a show - even under these circumstances.

Out of interest, why don’t they release a chart friendly version of songs like they used to? They used to release a version of a song from the show (ie I Know Him So Well) and they would chart well, giving the score a familiar appeal. People would go and see new stuff because they were familiar with the songs- rather than being familiar with the ‘names’ playing the leads.

I’d be surprised if anything reopens before a vaccine is widely available. I definitely don’t expect to be heading to a west end venue this year - small runs are different as they are a different business model. These big shows run on 8 shows a week selling to a decent standard - they can’t justify reopening to under 50% long term, and then there’s the question of whether enough people will be booking tickets to fill a theatre to 50% anyway. Particularly without mass tourism. Think we have to remember that these long running shows are a different beast and do not rely on people like us rushing to get tickets, in the way that people did recently for Hair and A Little Night Music, and even the drive-in shows.
That being said, I think if you book a ticket for a show March you might actually have a show to watch.

Couldn’t really argue with them when they pointed out Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero let a young teenage girl spend the rest of her life thinking she murdered someone. Never seen it this way before. Although she does ‘wake up’ and think it’s all a dream, no?

Nice collaboration on For Good. I love that they got so many previous cast members. Lovely video! I missed CJ and Sarah Earnshaw a bit though! And no Chloe Taylor / Nikki Davis Jones either?

I can guarantee most ‘new school’ actors would relish at the chance of doing two jobs at once - particularly if one was a West End lead role and the other was filming on set. The people on the west end who aren’t ‘troopers’ tend to be the ‘stars’ who have been stung casted - you can usually rely on properly trained professionals to be able to sustain their 8 shows and then some. Well I can think of several "current" west end shows that lead cast members dont do 8 shows a week. And what about those who do, week in week out, without question? I wouldn’t say it’s an ‘old school’ thing not to call out of the show - more a demonstration of someone’s own commitment to their craft, stamina - and may well say a thing or two about the role or the show (ie Prince of Egypt...!)

Any further narrator rumours?? Someone who shares my optimism :-) None that I have heard sadly.... (I still say Kerry Ellis would slay it!) If we lose hope what would be the point....! Theatre has been around for thousands of years, it’s going to take more than coronavirus to stop it! It will change theatre as we know it and the weak producers & production companies won’t survive but I think ALW could survive any apocalypse...! Yes she definitely would. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got a pop star in this time.

Idina was my first and will always have that soft spot for me. The sheer size of her voice (that’s the only way I can describe it) is enough to hit the core when you hear it live - I appreciate she doesn’t sound great on recordings but holy Jesus when you’re hearing it live it’s unbelievable. I also think once she got to London she knew Elphaba inside out so it was such a comfortable performance - she didn’t feel she had to prove anything like so many Elphabas I have seen since come across.
My other favourite is Cassidy Janson - such a layered actress and a quirky unique voice, a timbre you don’t hear often with Elphabas but really works. Loved her.
Notable favourites of mine are also Christine Dwyer, Louise Dearman and Hayley Gallivan.

So thrilled for Jodie Jacobs, this could be her first west end gig since WWRY if I’m not mistaken? Such an underused, overlooked performer in my opinion! She was in Rock Of Ages too for the entire West End run! You’re totally right! My bad.
