At Lucie Jones' concert tonight - Sara Bareilles, Gavin Creel, Jodie Steele, Liam Doyle and Lauren Samuels. I was also sat next to Alex Lodge who I now want to marry 😍 And Joel Montague and Alex Gaumond were in the Dress Circle

I don’t think it was going to be a staging of the musical - it would have been an entirely new ballet piece based on the same story. Not sure whether they would’ve been planning to use the R&H music or not.

By the sounds of it, it was scrapped before it really got off the ground. I don’t think there had been any public announcements, although high tier ROH members may have been privy.

Ria is still off, we had Rebecca Thornhill as Rose tonight. She’s undoubtedly very talented, but personally I thought she didn’t fit the role well. Otherwise a very good production (although I wish they’d shelled out for a few more band members!).

There’s an interview with Hooper in today’s Times. In it, he says that ‘with just weeks to go until release’ (so the interview must’ve happened in the last week or 2) there are approx. 2500 people still working on the visual effects. I don’t know anything about making a film, but that sounds like a very bad situation. In the interview he also says that the Golden Globes panel had to be shown an unfinished version of the film.

I really like Barks but do people think she has a big enough voice for the songs? I remember when I saw her in The Last 5 Years I was surprised that her belt was not as strong as I expected it to be. That was several years ago now so her voice may have developed more.

With Tucker in this I was very tempted, but have also booked for Zorro. Ticket prices made my mind up. Agree that even for a charity performance this is pretty ridiculous.

After 3 years of exciting Palladium panto announcements, this one’s leaving me a bit cold. Can’t quite put my finger on why - perhaps I was hoping for different or more exciting casting. The headshots for each character that Baz posted last night look rather awkward, especially O’Grady’s and the bears’.

Entry Pass booking very smooth this morning - I got through the queue immediately and booked my favourite seats on the dates I wanted for all 4 new productions.
I’ve noticed that in the past few booking periods I’ve gotten through the Entry Pass queue much quicker than I used to a year or two ago. I wonder whether demand is dying down or if I’m just getting luckier with age?

I see she is being supported by the Christian Legal Centre. I'll just say they are worth a google and leave it at that. WOW She should've looked them up on Wikipedia before starting this, the precedent has already been set in one of their previous cases: "Eunice and Owen Johns, a Christian couple who applied to become foster parents with Derby City Council. They withdrew their application after a social worker expressed concerns when they said they could not tell a child a homosexual lifestyle was acceptable. It infuriates me that the Daily Mail has put the word homophobe in quote marks every time it’s used - if it’s some journo attempt at neutrality then it fails spectacularly as the tone of the article makes it clear that the author sides firmly with Omooba. There’s no need for quote marks - her statement is in the article and is undeniably homophobic.
Semantics aside, it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. As I see it, the decision to drop her had nothing to do with her religious views and everything to do with her homophobic views. Whether or not the two are linked is irrelevant. She was sacked because she clearly held views that not only went against the fundamental nature of the character she was playing but also could have potentially put other members of the production team in danger.
I could write essays about how angry I am that people still feel entitled to spout hatred simply because they are expressing their religious beliefs. Religion is no longer the highest court in the land - our society is secular and your right to believe what you want must now be reconciled with everyone else’s right to live a safe and free life in this country. We shouldn’t stand for anyone refusing to apologise for homophobic remarks.

And the Gary Coleman character in the US is placed by a woman, in the UK played by a man. This isn't always true - on the 2016 Selladoor tour it was definitely a female Gary Coleman.

CamMac isn't normally one to scrimp on his productions, and the Prince Edward can certainly handle any technical challenge you throw at it, so I don't see any reason why he wouldn't have considered bringing the original design back. I guess the question is does he think it'll run long enough to recoup that extra expenditure?

Just saw a photo of the curtain call on twitter and to me it looks like the entire set is just made up of curved screens. Didn't appear to be any physical set at all, although obviously there are likely to be things rolled in and out during the show.

Samantha started the show but she was obviously struggling with her voice - she was quite shaky on notes that had been effortless for her the last time I saw the show, she was cracking, and she had a coughing fit just before Buenos Aires (as ceebee mentions above). It was clear that she was not comfortable. It must've been a very difficult decision given it was the last show, but at the end of the interval we were told by stage management that Marsha would be taking over for Act Two... ... and she was incredible! I had no idea her voice was so versatile - her belt is perhaps less powerful than Pauly's but her voice is much cleaner and felt better controlled, her control of her head voice in particular was impeccable and some of the lighter sections of music had a very sweet quality to them which made the latter scenes of the show even more emotional. Bravo to both women for excellent performances. Samantha joined Marsha for the bows so at least she got to see the show out of the park.

Interesting - I'll be at the last show tonight so will be intriguing to see if Pauly has called out completely or if she just feels a little under and wanted to rest so she could do all of tonight's show.
