Oh right. They changed her song previously. As long as they haven’t changed Hollywood, I’ll be OK. Is there any of the dreaded audience participation? Hollywood is the same, although the staging is dire. Someone literally just holding out a tiny stuffed Ewok toy from the wings for 'there goes an Ewok' and then sticking out one hand in a Freddy Krueger glove for 'talking to Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street'. I don't remember it being that noncommittal before... If you're front row or central aisle a couple of characters might address a couple of comments to you, but they don't expect you to say anything back. Janey and Feris also hand out superhero masks at one point and you're supposed to put them on and then a view of the audience is projected onto the back of the stage. But nothing beyond that. I see there’s a central aisle, but is there an aisle on the ‘outer edges?’

I think that I enjoyed this today. Started 20 minutes late due to some bit of kit needing to be rebooted. then quite possibly needed doing again after the extended interval. I much preferred the sweeter first act to the rather noisy, shouty second. Elliot Evans has a phenomenal voice and would have been a shoo-in to take over as Evan Hansen if it were still going…perhaps he’ll be remembered for the tour. So, nice enough few hours and got to meet our wonderful viserys too. Bugger to get to though isn’t it, Battersea?
No side aisles apart from the first 2 rows.

Easy as pie to get to - take the Northern Line to Battersea Power Station, turn left, and it's a 10 minute walk max if that. The only problem is that the show isn't remotely worth the travel time, sadly.

From Bristol. Lovely old London centric arrogance there…

I went to see this on Friday night with very little idea of what to expect, beyond a few songs I’d heard on Spotify.
I’m not 100% sure how I feel about it, to be honest. On one hand, there are undoubtedly some ear worms and funny moments, particularly lines given to the character of Theo in the first act.
It is high-octane and extremely loud, perhaps overcompensating slightly for the regular rumble of train carriages above!
However, I thought much of the book was inane and muddled. I totally get that with a show like this, you have to just go with it but I did feel it was a bit too much in places. Some of the jokes and references fell a bit flat.
I’ve given it three stars, partly due to the rousing final 15/20 minutes or so. While admittedly I found it frustrating in places, it did have its merits and the energy of the cast was infectious.
I think I was expecting something more similar to the excellent 42 Balloons, another 80s pop-inspired musical. While Eugenius didn’t match up to that in my eyes, it was OK.
I should also add it was my first visit to the Turbine (easy enough to get to for me!) and it was a pleasant experience. The staff were helpful and I appreciated the efforts the venue had gone to in terms of making it relevant to the show currently playing.

I saw this last night.
I really like the show anyway so I know I was going to enjoy it.
I’m not sure it benefitted from being in such a small space, but the actors made it work.
Having Lex be a woman worked really well I thought.
Everyone played their parts really well, especially Janie and Feris. However, I did feel that the actor playing Feris was playing to the wings sometimes and also trying to make the rest of the cast laugh which was distracting.

Loved this on Sunday (early performance). I missed this first time around, so my only exposure to Eugenius was the filmed performance that aired during lockdown. I must have been distracted during that one, as I really couldn't remember many of the details. I recognised some regulars from Heathers in the audience too, so this is attracting the same fanbase.
This does play upon its 1980s references much more than other shows too, so it really helps if you were there. Most of the cast are far too young, so they did well. I'd also put this in the running for the campest show running in London right now, which Dominic Andersen really plays up to in his lycra clad moments.
I got to sit in the front row as well, so felt very engaged. This works perfectly in the small Turbine Theatre. Just good fun all around and the cast look to be enjoying every minute.

I saw this on Sunday evening, and while it may not objectively be the best show I’ve seen on my trip to London it is probably the most enjoyable. However, I did feel that the actor playing Feris was playing to the wings sometimes and also trying to make the rest of the cast laugh which was distracting. I was on the outer edge of the front row, so I’m probably the only one who saw but there was one bit near the end where he was right in Eugene’s face and he pursed his lips like he was going to kiss him. One thing I found distracting was the boxes, mocked up to look like graphic novel spines. Some had genuine titles like Uncanny X-Men or Mighty Thor but others had in-jokes like Tough Man: Andersen Edition. Dr Tom Mr Andersen’s arms are featured so often they deserve their own credit!

Saw the matinee today and after loving it at The Other Palace, I was a bit wary of seeing this in a smaller space, but I loved it. Same energy as before, just a bit more compact.
The cast is great, although some of the doubling/tripling up took some getting used to (looking at you Dominic Andersen as the Dad).

Loved this tonight! This show has grown and grown on me and the production here whilst more compact is much more impressive visually. Great music, great vocals and great staging.

Can anyone on this board help with getting hold of The Turbine Theatre's box office? I've been trying, through their online contact form, email and socials, since Wednesday to ask if they will swap tickets I have for tonight to a different date.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know, thanks!

Hadn't realised customers can swap their own tickets for another dates/different seats at same performance via a link in the booking confirmation email. £1 admin fee.

I saw this last night, and I wanted it to be much better than it is.
It feels like someone opened Google and searched "popular 80s films and TV shows", and used the results liberally throughout the script, even when it served no purpose. The character of Janie could have been replaced with a sexy lamp and there would have been no difference (although the actor playing that role had an amazing voice), and the "No Pants Song" was just a serious mis-step. Too much was left unresolved, the plot was a mess, and I'm also pretty sure some of the costumes were recycled from 'But I'm a cheerleader' (which - fair enough - but I shouldn't be able to tell!)
I gave it three stars last night. I'm downgrading it to two.

Cancelled tonight due to cast illness (I was scheduled to attend, but never mind - hope everyone recovers quickly).

Caught this for the fourth time on Thursday night, sad that the journey is coming to an end. If you get the chance, catch it on this final week.
Every time I've gone, Joey Beach has been the absolute highlight. Not to say that the entire cast isn't excellent, but he really takes it from a super fun show to an absolute riot.
It's also been fun to see how they've worked around missing cast members, sometimes referencing it in character.
There's probably nothing I didn't love about the show so instead of paragraphs of praise, I'll just say that the Turbine is the absolute friendliest theatre in London. Love it.
Catch it if you can.
