Playing Sandwiches - whilst thinking I knew where this was going it still brought me up short when it did. The original with David Haig will knock your socks off. Lucian Msamati is a brilliant actor but Haig really sold the emotion of it. |

Yes had to wade back through thread to find out who the original was with and am now trying to imagine, have come to realise I really haven't seen these before beyond maybe an odd minute or two. |

Do we think The Shrine was set in the present, or years ago?
The language, references and the character's clothes are quite dated.

Incredible performance though I put it in the same timrframe as the original monologues, the 80s but written as though it could be anywhere from 1960 onwards. I think An Ordinary Woman is the only one that explicitly has modern references to phones and technology? |

I think I just expected The Shrine to be another attempt at Alan doing something contemporary, but her language and particularly her fashion was very dated. The only vaguely modern reference was the woman with tattooed hands! |
