I am a social worker. I once did a stint in Older Person Services and I was amazed at how generous the RBL was, cash was handed out left right and centre to older people in times of need with very few checks required. The fundraising does an awful lot of good.

Where the poppy earrings etc are concerned I think it's down to personal choice. I know someone who has a pair and wears them to all family events representing those lost as they lost two family members in more recent conflicts.

Prince Edward are the only current members of the royal family (not including wives & husbands) without military service records Prince Edward did train with the marines, didn't he, then went to work for Really Useful Group? I think it was a brief flirtation with the Military for Edward. |

He trained briefly with the Marines and then left (much info online re that). Prince Edward is Honorary Colonel of the London Regiment (TA) and as such is entitled to wear their uniform (my husband* was in the London Regiment, did a 7 month tour based in Nad E Ali in Afghanistan in 2010 - *ex husband as of 2012 - doesn't take much to figure where I lay the blame for our split). Prince Andrew served in the Falklands, Prince Harry served 2 tours in Afghanistan (albeit briefly after the press found out). |

Is all this royal armed forces services stuff, a bit like saying Prince Charles went to Cambridge?

I know that a lot of the Royal Family served in the forces most notably Prince Andrew and the Duke of Kent who did over 20 years in the Navy and Army respectively but why do they need to wear ceremonial uniforms for so many things. I understand it for military occasions but they wear it for investitures like Princess Anne for the Olivia Colman one recently etc. Also for Weddings and Funerals you'd see them often all in uniform.
We laugh at some of these dictators running around in their uniforms with self appointed honours. What if Trump decided to have a Commander in Chief Uniform made which he wore he'd be ridiculed.
