If you mean they cut out that silly all's well that ends well epilogue right after the denouement then you've sold it to me! Well obviously you and Kasper Holten know better than Mozart. Did Mozart really include it for creative reasons though? Or was it the same kind of pressure which leads to Disney happy endings? I guess we'll never know, but it sure seems he was conflicted about it.

Thanks for that, some interesting stuff in the Linbury which I look forward to complaining about not being able to get tickets for Public booking opened today - good news is the Linbury shows have not sold out, bad news is they seem to have achieved this by whacking the prices up. Last time I paid £35 and £45 for front facing stalls - these seats are now £55 or £65 depending on the show. So I've given them a miss!

Good luck to anyone else trying for Fidelio tickets tomorrow. It seems fairly unclear what tickets have been held back for public sale, but there’s much discussion over on the Ballet forum. It would be interesting to know how the ticket allocations work for this compared, to similarly popular theatre, like say last year’s When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other at the NT.

I decided to get a Young Friend Membership this year, as there is quite a bit that I want to see - one of them being FIDELIO.
When I logged onto the website on the day of Friends booking (about a month ago now), my chosen performance for FIDELIO had already sold out (though this was the Sunday matinee and Opening Performance, so was quite understandable really). I have been logging on everyday checking if tickets would come up to no avail, until yesterday when I managed to bag myself a central stalls seat. Most of the time, returns do show up. I remember that Jonas’ ROH OTELLO was sold out initially, but I managed to bag myself a return for that. The same was true for Netrebko’s MACBETH. The only time I’ve really been unsuccessful was FORZA last year, when no returns showed up (at least for the Netrebko/Kaufmann cast).
I’ve also got myself a ticket for the new ALICE’S ADVENTURES UNDER GROUND. Quite looking forward to it, and for £60, really can’t complain.

I'm one of the people involved in that discussion (I have the same username there as here). I don't even want to see Fidelio myself but I'm interested in the principle,as for years it has been widely thought that 20% of ROH tickets were held back for public booking but recently people have come to realise that that appears to be no longer the case. I was checking the website when booking opened at 9am this morning and while some seats did show up for Fidelio it didn't look like there were "hundreds". I'm currently awaiting a reply from the ROH asking why, when they told the Telegraph there were "hundreds" being held back, I had an email from them yesterday, in reply to my querying if the 20% rule was true, saying no tickets had been held back!

Weird looking at the dates for Alice's Adventures Underground that (apart from the school's matinee and the two performances on Tuesday 4th Feb, which I assume is press night) all the other 6 performances appear to be being filmed.

I'm not a particular fan of Sambe, though I am of Magri, so I haven't thus far booked for that cast. Whether I succumb nearer the time remains to be seen! So far I have Hayward/Corrales & Nunez/Muntagirov booked & would ideally like to add Naghdi/Ball. If only the ticket prices weren't so high for both Swan Lake & Sleeping Beauty. I've just seen 5 different Manon casts last month & will be seeing 3 each for Coppelia, Onegin & the Concerto triple bill because they're all lower priced.

I'm SO tempted to book for Sambé as well I’ve accidentally made a habit of going to see his role debuts, and he never disappoints. Watching his development into one of the real company stars over the past few years has been a complete joy - his performances are now must-book for me!

Splashed out £5 on Alice - standing in the Stalls, end of row. I have a slightly cunning plan with bookings at the ROH and this has a decent chance of paying off ...

The Magic Flute last night, from the Stalls Circle - alongside the orchestra pit. Holy smoke! You really get a sense from here of the scale of these productions - gargantuan piece of scenery shifting in and out, up and down. Huge cast, chorus, the cast arriving left, right, from above and below Magnificent costumes, beautiful lighting and movement. Bit of singing as well. It was a £28 genuinely restricted seat (near side of mid stage and back of stage missing) but there are also wonderful compensations from here. As for the production - caveat: what do I know! - both Queen of the Night (Tuuli Takala) and Pamina (Elsa Dreisig) sounded gorgeous to me. The orchestra as well. Plenty of laughs, and in different places to the ENO production in March. It's just a gorgeous spectacle and probably, in ROH terms, a sold 4 baby Papageno's out of 5. Huge fun!

After being too unwell to use my ticket for a Hayward/Campbell cast of Sleeping Beauty I’m off to today’s matinee. Double debut for Anna Rose O’Sullivan and James Hay, I believe, and I’m very excited for this!
