Erm I think if one goes and digs out the Grenfell thread (Let's not because it doesn't do to dwell or wallow in tradgedy for it's own sake) then universally here we were deeply saddened and angry about the tragedy. But outrage and sadness over one event, doesn't mean we can't equally express sadness over another.
Over and over people have also stated the simple facts 'it's remarkable and welcome news nobody was killed' and 'but I am sad for the potential damage to historical buildings' as it stands, it seems though extensive the damage is able to be repaired, and no significant artefacts were lost that we know of. Great, things weren't as bad as feared. Doesn't mean we can't be sad it happened.

Giving an old thread a bump as there is, what I assume, a new programme on BBC4 tonight about the rebuilding of Notre-Dame. 9pm (or 2.45am if your sleep pattern is up the spout!) then on iPlayer.
