There have been renovations recently and they suspect it’s linked to that unfortunately

It is a tragedy for France - and for the world. Such an iconic building with so much history.

I am now kicking myself that I didn't look round it when I visited Paris 10 years ago. I don't think I'll get to see it now, as it sadly doesn't look like there's going to be much left of it.

The roof is gone - I can't see how you can bring this under control now

This is so incredibly sad. Such a beautiful building with so much history destroyed so quickly.

As sad as the fire is, it will likely be rebuilt and Notre Dame has survived many disasters and events in its history.

I hope Quasimodo is alright? There’s probably a time and a place mate... now doesn’t seem like it!

Ria Jones is outside the Cathedral as we speak, clearly very emotional by the whole thing. Just so sad and tragic to see, from all these angles.

I can’t bear to watch these videos and look at these pictures anymore. It’s such a sad event. 800+ years of history lost just like that.

the roof is apparently completely gone, they've started being able to get some water onto the flames finally.

I hope Quasimodo is alright? There’s probably a time and a place mate... now doesn’t seem like it! Your dead right, but no life’s have been lost. Am I expected to feel upset about a building that millions have been lavished on, where people starved, stop. A building that used slaves to build, stop. A building used for Catholic worship, watch the film Spotlight mate, stop. Usurping this the amount of historic building that have caught fire, you think they would’ve learned something, there is no excuse for a fire, completely avoidable, barring a lightning strike.

This whole thing is about empathy. You don’t have to feel any particular sadness about the situation but kindness and respect for others feelings is a necessity.
