Sacrilege! I thought this messageboard was a good place, but I see now that it's a hive of scum and villainy. Meatliquor all the way.

We have a couple of new Italian favourites. Although it’s a chain we’ve been pleased with two visits to www.polpo.co.uk/Fresh and tasty not your bog standard Italian fare. Good VFM The branch in Maiden Lane, off Southampton Row in Covent Garden is very convenient fot the Strand, ROH etc..No need to book, arrive at 6 and there’s no Queues. A More upmarket restaurant with similar ideas on how to present Italian food is www.sancarlofumo.co.uk/fumo-st-martins-lane/IN lower St Martins Lane. If I was in the Market I’d take some one there to impress. Mrs Snow was so impressed, she did go back without me! High standards and not ruinous prices by London prices.

Food advice!
Tomorrow I'm leaving an event at the BFI around 17.15 then heading to the Hampstead.
Is my best option scarf something down from near the BFI (So likely NT or similar) THEN scoot up to Swiss Cottage OR get myself to the Hampstead area then eat?

If I'm eating between two shows, I'll make sure I get to the area of the second show first. It just feels safer. If I'm going to be running late because of an unexpected tube delay or a walk that took longer than I expected, I can sacrifice a bit of eating time (hit up McDonald's rather than a sit-down, or know I'll need to grab a bag of crisps at the interval), but curtain times are generally a lot less flexible than my stomach.

That's my instinct too. Second question: where can one eat near the Hampstead...that is indeed quick (I've only been up there for matinees in the last few years)

If I'm being honest, I mostly eat fast food when I go to the Hampstead. Something about all those posh audience members in red trousers just makes me want to eat a Happy Meal! There's a nice gelato place that does crepes and waffles over the road from the McDonald's (and KFC and Subway), but I don't think they're very heavy on the savoury items...

About 10 mins walk away so easy to dash to afterwards.

I'd never been to Chiquitos before but we found a 50% off voucher online so thought we'd give it a try, and we went to the one right in Leicester Square. Was very impressed, and we all had an abundance of food (we all went for the Fajitas) and my dad and I had a coke, mum and sister had a water and the total cost - £37! Absolute bargain.
If I'm by myself in London on a two show day I'll just get a Tesco meal deal and find somewhere nice to sit (thank god for summer coming around again).

Alternatively if you walk towards the shopping centre, stay on the same side of the road as the theatre and there are a few restaurants (Chinese, Thai, Italian) fairly close to the theatre.

Itsu on the Strand have half price after 10:30pm. Perfect if leaving Kinky Boots, Dreamgirls or if you are willing to cross the bridge after seeing something at the National. You can get a big box of sushi for just £3.

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone has any particular recommendations in Chinatown? Going to Les Mis in Sep and one of our party has walking difficulties so don't want to be too far away.

I really like Caffè Concerto although I’ve not been to that branch before. Café Monico is lovely inside but I’ve not eaten there. Sorry, I’m not being much help.

My daughter suffered a severe case of food poisoning as did her companion from a well known Chinese in China town. It closed briefly then reopened, same place of course. Since then I have not eaten anywhere there. Now we have those grades displayed I know so check out where you go. Sorry for the downer but as such things go , it was terrible. I would recommend Yalla, Yalla, delicious Middle Eastern, tucked in an alley behind Shaftesbury Ave.

Thanks very much all! I forgot to mention that my parents live in France, so a French style bistro wouldn't be their first choice! ☺️ Yalla, Yalla looks great though so I think we'll give it a go.
