Hi all, sorry for the off-topic post but I'm posting it here as I'm in a hurry and this forum has the highest views. Can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably priced place to eat between shows? Just come out of something and really fancy a burger or something. Any hidden gems from fellow theatre fans?  |

Give us a rough location - no use me recommending a beloved Islington eaterie if you're in Sloane Square!  I'm guessing you mean West End, but whereish? |

Um... well, I like Hummus Bros on Wardour St. I don't do a *lot* of eating in the West End, but I enjoy most of the burrito places I know populate the area. Benito's Hat (down the thin road directly opposite the Noël Coward) does jolly drinks and free tortilla chips if that sounds appealing. Actually there's an Italian street food place pretty much opposite the Noël Coward which does fantastic pizza slices if you're not that fussed about sitting down. There's the usual chains too - Itsu and Leon, both available on the Strand, are pretty reliable pre-theatre non-McDonald's eateries.

I'm rather partial to a Herman Ze German on Old Compton Street every now and again. Their sausages are the wurst. Er, best!

I pick mine by which theatre I'm closest to, I'll go for Ma Plucker's (chicken restaurant) if I'm in soho - the prices are so cheap and a lot of decent food for it. They also do a fantastic alcoholic iced tea.

Never been since I get plenty of currywurst here, but I've always wondered about the place. Didn't the original poster asks about burgers? It may be a bit tacky, not to mention noisy and crowded, but I do like the burgers at Five Guys on the busy junction of St Martin's Lane, Long Acre and... uh, whatever other streets meet there. |

There's also a Five Guys next to Charing Cross station in Villiers Street (close to another Herman ze German (where I haven't been, either)) which is usually less busy. I do, however, prefer the burgers from Shake Shack (there's one in Covent Garden).

Benito's hat does good and cheap burrito's, sushi take-aways/subways and chill in the park (When the weather is good), and sometimes I enjoy a steak at Chiquito. Awful atmosphere but the food is pretty good and it's cheap

Probably not, but there's no harm in having a thread of eateries that others can refer to in the future. (Also, I wouldn't mind an update - where did he eat in the end, and would he recommend it to us?) |

Our very own Stasia introduced me to the Flat Iron, a steak and burger place on Henrietta St., Covent Garden, and also on Denmark St., Soho. It's a bit pricier than some of the other places mentioned here but the steak and chips is excellent value for the money.

Useful thread, always good to have recomendations for places to eat. For super quick between shows I often get a Burrito from one of the many take away type places and eat in a park. Or pop into a Leon or Itsu (around Strand St Martin's Lane area)
Also the old reliable Pizza Express!
Good to hear the burger recomendations though.

As I often have a proper sit-down dinner prior to a show I tend to go for restaurants close to the theatre. But just i case anyone is interested in a few ideas here are a few of my most visited:
Strada (Tavistock Street & Panton Street)
Jamie's Italian (Upper St Martin's Lane, Covent Garden)
Fire & Stone (Maiden Lane)
Wildwood (Bow Street)

I echo Fire and Stone, but the one and only time I went to Jamie's they couldn't cook my burger how I wanted it and I ended up with food poisoning. (Not that specific branch, but I won't ever venture into another one.)

I'm still gutted that the original Leon in Old Compton Street disappeared. Whenever I'm alone I like to choose places where I can sit in a row by the window such as the Pret A Manger at St. Martin's Lane or Chipotle in Charing Cross Road, so I can eat and watch people stroll by outside.
One interesting place I discovered recently is "Koshari" in St. Martin's Lane, they sell cheap very filling Egyptian street food with chickpeas and other stuff.
Does anyone know of a nice somewhat cheapish Indian place in Theatreland? I quite like Dishoom, but it's not very cheap and also very busy in the early evening.

Oh, I know somewhere else good (not Indian, sorry) - Franco Manca! It's in that narrow road behind the Adelphi, you can get a decent-sized delicious sourdough pizza and a drink for under a tenner. Sometimes tricky to get seated, but worth a go if you've got a little time.

Leon was replaced by Muriel's Kitchen, which also opened a branch in Leicester Square and was quite nice. I know it has closed again in Leicester Square but I'm actually not sure if it's still in Old Compton Street.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Italian restaurants that are relatively close to the theatre area at all? I've already mentioned a few in my last post that I frequent when I make a trip and I have also been to Bella Italia (for the sake of a quick bite) and Spaghetti House. Just curious for a few more places to try when I'm next down in November. |

Salieri on the Strand isn't bad. I think Prezzo is the best of the chain Italians, and there are several of them in and around Covent Garden.

Found a new one to add to my list today- Canela in Covent Garden (just by seven dials) was a lovely little Portuguese place with a nice selection of sandwiches and salads. Definitely going back there!

I'm quite partial to going to Fiori Corner opposite the London Hippodrome in Leic. Sq! Cheap, quick service and the food is pretty good!

Glad this thread has popped up.
Walking down St Martin's Lane today, there seems to be a newish Indian Restaurat next to Jamie's Italian called the 'Dish Room', it always seems popular as when I went past today and many times recently, there is always a line outside. Has anyone been in there?
Because I opt to see a lot of theatre, I cannot be so flamboyant in my eating tastes, but I love Pret A Manger and Caffe Nero.
