She is an A List Hollywood star And one of the most respected actresses working today And a fashion icon And a supporting cast Of very respected Actors too And a very short run . I think it will Be a quick Sell out. This production is now fully sold out in just over 2 weeks, so I would say 'Mr Barnaby' was right, it was in a fact 'a quick sell out.' And before the Cate Blanchett hate mob starts up again to give their definition of what counts as 'a quick sell out', I have one question for you: have you ever starred in a sold-out West End show, won 2 Oscars and 4 Baftas? The answer I'm guessing is no, so all your cynicism is utterly illegitimate and so, really anything you have to say about Cate Blanchett is irrelevant and unnecessary and I think it would be better if this forum did not hear your negative opinions about her.

It is currently marked as sold out but I would be amazed if another massive tranche of tickets don't get released nearer the start date at very inflated prices. Call me cynical!

I think so. I haven't seen anyone bemoan DP yet, and that was alluded to on the webpage before booking opened.
Plenty of time still for the DP inflated 'I can't believe <insert tourist prices>'

So Barbican states the show is sold out, but further tickets *will* be released next year? That's friggin dishonest isn't it. Either it is sold out or it isn't. I'm new to the theatre scene obviously and I've gotta say I really don't appreciate all these contradictory use of words.

You do seem to have an odd grudge against this production - firstly the fact that opening night wasnt available to you (which is never is for any show) and now this... what's the issue?

This forum is here for positive and negative comments on actor’s performances and creative choices. This is not a fan site and anyone reading or contributing should understand that they will undoubtedly see negative comments about performers they may admire. If that’s a problem they should avoid the thread.

For sure, obvious puff pieces and spiteful put-downs can both be quite tiresome; but I like to be able to decide for myself whether a comment is 'legitimate' or otherwise.

On the contrary, I'm very excited about this production! I really hope it's gonna be great. You know it is possible to be excited about one thing and still have gripes about them right? It may seem normal to you lot well-versed in theatre but as an outsider it is very odd for 'opening nights' to be exclusionary (and elitist) and 'sold out' to be well, not actually (so we can rack the prices up next year). I much prefer if words are used accurately for clear and transparent communication. Not sure if this is just a Barbican thing.

They will have an amount of seats on hold for production, house seats etc. a sprinkling of tickets are bound to be released at certain points.
Happens on every single sell out show.

I don't think you're going to enjoy theatre if this kind of thing winds you up this much. It's not a big deal. There are many other performances aside from "opening night".

Welcome to the theatre going community almaway and I hope you have many transformative and memorable nights as I and many others have. I was a latecomer to theatre myself and have found some things annoy me and some things you just have to learn to live with, which is perfectly legtimate, and it absolutely doesn't mean you're 'not going to enjoy theatre' - unfortunately being told that theatre isn't for you (and you can be told that in many different ways I've found) is just one of those things you have to learn to live with and ignore.

Okay. I’ve just watched Disclaimer and may have lost some respect for Blanchetts ability to choose a good script. Jeez it was BAD.

Thank you! I'd imagine I'd continue to have gripes over what I consider to be dishonest/shady business practices (or misuse of words in general) but these never impede my enjoyment of the performances, at least that's my experience of musicals/concerts anyway. I always thought plays would be boring but I went with a friend to catch a play once, and it was surprisingly enjoyable. I've heard wonderful things about Cate Blanchett's turn as Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire and always wanted to catch this great actor on stage. I'm really excited about the play. I want to say it's a dream come true but I should probably temper my expectations.

Opening night is available for public booking for lots of shows and I’ve been to several, including at the Barbican.

I just watched episode 6 and I feel so sorry for you and myself. I had a feeling that I should skip it and watch the final 2 episode altogether next week but oh well. I can't believe we have to wait another week to get to her POV when most people already knew something was up by episode 4 and could probably ball park what actually happened. I get they are trying to do a Rashomon but Rashomon was 90 minutes, not 7 hours! Literally, they just show the main character frailing around for 6 episodes when all she needs to do is to say stuff. Why do they even need Cate Blanchett to play this part? Anyone could do that. It would be more fun to see her play the Nancy character. This is a pretty show, and the plot is intriguing enough for 4 episodes. It would be a great if they condense it to 5 episodes, or at least, have the last 3 roll out back to back on the same week.

I watched the first two episodes and haven't been inspired to continue with the rest yet. I'm sure I'll get round to them eventually but yeah, didn't love.

I loved it so much that I read the book after the first two episodes, I was so eager to find out what's actually going on and how it ends. I then proceeded to enjoy the following episodes knowing exactly what's actually going on, and I enjoyed them immensely! I'm now looking forward to the final episode, and I'm sure it'll be no less splendid than the previous ones. Though I agree they should've shown the final two episodes back to back, but oh well - not long to wait now.
