The Seagull w/ Cate Blanchett - Barbican

Managed to get through not long after my last comment. Got front row Gallery seats - I was hopeful I could find an under 25s ticket next to a full price one for my mother but couldn't see any on the dates I wanted and didn't want to risk losing the other tickets I could get so I guess I'll suffer the vertigo for unrestricted and relatively inexpensive tickets at least.

Phew, after a long wait the rest was pretty easy. Still gutted I missed out on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof so this makes up for it.

It will all depend on the set design.

I was kicking myself yesterday when I realised I hadn't signed up for the pre-sale. I then somehow managed to forget about the on-sale this morning too and ended up joining the queue with 4,000 people in front of me! It didn't move for ages but the booking process was reasonably smooth once I was in. Decided to splurge on one of the £99.50 stall seats. Wouldn't normally pay that much but Cate Blanchett's a big enough name to justify it in my books.

Just hoping that this is better than Jamie Lloyd's version of The Seagull at the Pinter...

Can't be bothered to do the actual maths, but a quick flick through every date shows only about four performances where it isn't already at least 85% sold. Not instant obviously, but very solid.

It will sell out, but I give you this one, parsley1: you went against the grain and defied expectations.

I expected 6 weeks with this cast to be sold out by now.

The Cumberbatch Hamlet sold out 12 weeks much faster than this. I suppose "Hamlet" is a more popular play than "The Seagull."

And Cumberbatch was "Sherlock," the hottest of hot primetime telly.

This will sell out, for sure, but you were basically right. I'm flabbergasted lol. :0

It probably will sell out because at the Barbican discount tickets usually appear in several channels if they can't shift them at full price. My point really was how come their booking system collapsed at a point well below maximum potential demand. 

She’s done that for quite a while now.. random!

Cate Blanchett isn't the flashiest of film stars to attract an instant sell out.

There may be another reason, for people who know the play more than the star.

I hovered over a few upper circle seats for ages, and had one in my basket having checked the view on Seat Plan - most reviews of the seats were pretty good, and I'd go for it if it was 'Anything Goes' or 'Jesus Christ Superstar' or one of the magical Shakespeares or a tragedy of blasted-heath scale. For 'The Seagull' though (whatever they do with this production) the human emotions are smaller and detailed, and I don't want to be at a distance or bobbing around a safety rail. Neither do I want to pay for Stalls at those prices - so I haven't booked at all.

If there are any Day Seats I'll take the 'fast-finger challenge'; and lucky to live near enough to play that game.

What a funny discussion. Well, probably to an average person she doesn’t mean that much nowadays but to everyone who loves good cinema she’s as exciting as it gets. Easily one of the finest actresses of all time.

On a budget of 25 million dollars

Tar grossed 29 million dollars the second lowest of all
the films nominated for best picture that year

At the end of day box office receipts are what matter

And she hasn’t actually won an Oscar since 2013

Since then her films have been offering ever diminishing returns

And her choice of material becomes increasingly desperate

Pointless having talent if you don’t know how or where to use it correctly
