I don't know if this has been discussed on this site before, but I heard that apparently there were plans for a revival of 'The Producers', which would have starred James Corden of all people. You can probably imagine who he would've played. It was almost about to go ahead, but Corden backed out just before it could become official, citing the reason being that he thought it would be a big risk for him to appear in a musical when, and I quote, "half the world hates him". Now I got this from a second hand account, so I don't know how much of this is true, but it wouldn't surprise me if Corden did at least consider doing a musical, before backing out and deciding to do a play instead. I can't help but feel a little bad for him if his decision to back out was because of how disliked he is, and I'm someone who isn't a fan of his either! Ironically though, Corden does kind suit the role of Max Bialystock, if you think about it. The aborted Producers was discussed on here a while back, I think it was when Frozen first announced it's closing and we were speculating what might next go into Drury Lane. It was talked about for the Coli - original production. However, someone, somewhere thought it would ruffle too many feathers what with the war in Ukraine, and apparently Mel Brooks pulled it as he didn't want to change anything in the script.

James might want to see how he goes in a play before committing to a musical as those runs are hard and physically tiring. So having a run in a play would give him the a good feel of where he is physically and mentally if he was thinking of taking on a major musical role. I wonder if James reads this board: www.broadwayworld.com/article/Video-James-Corden-Reveals-Hed-Like-to-Return-to-Broadway-Next-Year-20240507
