Thought it would be cool to start a thread for general rumours, as idk where else they’d go.
Just saw the annoying shouty TikTok man say it’s looking like the west end will get a revival of Sunday in the park with George, starring Andrew Garfield!

I don't know if this has been discussed on this site before, but I heard that apparently there were plans for a revival of 'The Producers', which would have starred James Corden of all people. You can probably imagine who he would've played. It was almost about to go ahead, but Corden backed out just before it could become official, citing the reason being that he thought it would be a big risk for him to appear in a musical when, and I quote, "half the world hates him".
Now I got this from a second hand account, so I don't know how much of this is true, but it wouldn't surprise me if Corden did at least consider doing a musical, before backing out and deciding to do a play instead. I can't help but feel a little bad for him if his decision to back out was because of how disliked he is, and I'm someone who isn't a fan of his either!
Ironically though, Corden does kind suit the role of Max Bialystock, if you think about it.

The aborted Producers was discussed on here a while back, I think it was when Frozen first announced it's closing and we were speculating what might next go into Drury Lane.

I think Corden should The Odd Couple with another big name actor and have the gimmick of them alternating the role of Oscar and Felix.

Leo was the quieter, smaller more timid guy. Hannah W as Ulla? James might want to see how he goes in a play before committing to a musical as those runs are hard and physically tiring. So having a run in a play would give him the a good feel of where he is physically and mentally if he was thinking of taking on a major musical role.

Is this a credible rumour, because I really don’t want to get too excited about it otherwise? I would love to see this. We are crying out for a new production of SUNDAY in London. Andrew Garfield is also good casting.

James might want to see how he goes in a play... Didn't he do 'One Man, Two Guv'nors' a while back? I watched it online during lockdown (recorded earlier, obviously) and thought he was awful. It could be one of those things you had to see in person, but his timing and delivery just seemed plodding and heavy-handed. But I would think that a farce like that, with all the running around would be a good test of endurance.

It was brilliant to see live, I think it is one of those shows that doesn't translate to screen.

I think it is one of those shows that doesn't translate to screen I believe that. I also have trouble watching plays, opera or ballet on television. (And heaven knows, I tried during lockdown!) I just can't 'fall into it' like I do in a theater.. too many distractions. And filming by necessity magnifies small mannerisms and facial expressions almost to the point of parody.

It was brilliant to see live, I think it is one of those shows that doesn't translate to screen. I saw the show twice (not with Corden, it was Gavin Spokes) and thought it was great. Was really hyping it up to my partner, so we watched the recorded version, and it just didn't have the same energy as watching it live.

Same, I saw the tour with Spokes and wasn’t it Jodie Prenger as the girlfriend? Thought it was very funny despite not liking farce usually. When the James Corden one was televised I couldn’t get through it.

Besides the great comet, has anyone got any clues as to what might be in Tim Sheader’s first Donmar season? Really intrigued to see what it will be. I imagine an announcement is imminent..
