Just got back from the exhilarating (and also sort of exhausting) evening at Sadlers Wells (two intervals takes the evening to the 2:45 mark!). The highlight of the evening--and certainly the talk of the theatre-goers--was the whackadoodle middle item of the triptych, the premiere of HOTEL by choreographer Morgann Runacre-Temple and composer Mikael Karlsson. Though it seems--at first--a sort of noir version of Grand Hotel, it soon morphs into something far more sinister, with lots of 1984-esque Big Brother projections, and some surreal metamorphoses. I thought it was the cat's meow, but my guess is that more conservative balletomanes might balk at this fusion of the theatrical and the balletic.
The other two pieces--by Kylián and Scholz--were beautifully realized and danced (and the stamina of the dancers was impressive). Two thumbs up.
