Agree. Having said that, I wonder why he decided to make Juliet Jewish rather than Romeo ?

Their statement about it says that they’ve removed or altered sections of the text so that it’s not ‘both families are bad’ and more the Nazi family persecuting the Jewish one - but at that rate surely they just built a Romeo and Juliet-style story from the ground up.
Also if they wanted a play with a family in Nazi occupied Europe, and the daughter falls in love with a hitler youth, why not just do a production of the Sound of Music?
