Cast recording for this is out - some extra bits of dialogue in a couple of the songs, but otherwise not too dissimilar from the London recording with the exception of the cast. I like what I hear mostly - particularly Betsy Wolfe as Anne.

I don't mind the new recording, but Shakespear with an American accent? No thanks.

I don't mind the new recording, but Shakespear with an American accent? No thanks. Completely agree. It doesn't work with an American accent. And he's so bland, it makes you realise how good Oliver Tompsett is. Betsy Wolfe is fabulous though.

Stark Sands is the definition of bland for me. Kinky Boots, Bonnie and Clyde, they were all the same one note. He brings nothing to the role. Oliver Tompsett brings a character with some energy that really comes over in the recording.

Broadway cast did not disappoint tonight! But it’s definitely a one for the women! Betsy Wolfe every bit as good as Cassidy, Melanie La Barrie absolutely killing it as always, and Lourna Courtney is a wonderful Juliet with killer vocals. All three deserve to be Tony nominated.
I can sense this is brewing to become a big Broadway hit - the energy and atmosphere was fantastic to be a part of.

Looks like last night’s press night they got great reviews… I honestly thought this wouldn't land with audiences on Broadway. Has there been anything recently as cheesy as this that has won Tonys?

I saw this with a Rush ticket. Very easy to get, third row Mezzanine, perfect view. It wasn’t my first choice, but the other shows I was considering were far too expensive.
A very good choice. This has transferred well, with excellent sound quality. There was an extra cast list with various merged rows, so I guess they were short of people, but it didn’t show.
It is very odd seeing this with American accents, and they’ve largely cast different types to the UK. I wasn’t as keen on the Shakespeare/Hathaway dynamics, but I guess they’ve made it broader for an American audience. Covers for both Juliet and Romeo, both good.
The highlight was David Bedella, reprising his Olivier Award winning role as Lance. It also turned out to be his final performance. A nice speech for him at the end and he got jukebox duties. So, rather happy I decided to Rush for this!

I enjoyed it so much more on Broadway. As I said at the time, I thought it just worked better in ‘American’. Fantastic cast (lots of covers on, made zero difference).
