I want to know why for years LMM was filming himself. x years from opening, 18 months, etc. who does that? Dramatic effect? For another documentary that will inevitably be created and packaged together years from now when the Hamilton movie comes out.

For another documentary that will inevitably be created and packaged together years from now when the Hamilton movie comes out. And anyway people in general film each other all the time, particularly when they're making something. Heck there's film of Jonathan Larson at his piano writing bits and pieces long before anyone thought he'd do anything 'big' either. And older readers might remember VH1's 'Behind the Music' where grainy video of then famous popstars would appear, but you might think 'why on earth film that rubbish' *
*not saying what Lin was doing was rubbish, I haven't had chance to watch yet...

Here's the PBS documentary "Hamilton's America", a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how this production grew. Here's me all the more eager to see the show now… www.pbs.org/video/2365870668/ (The link's content will expire on 18 november) edit: Ooops, sorry for the similar thinking, Snutte ;-) I keep getting a 'the video is not available in your region due to right restrictions message.' Anyone know a way round this? Thanks

So Lin is now settling into London! I'll be on the lookout for any cabaret spots or something, I'll be amazed if he can resist performing till October 2017

They should have titled that article "I like Hamilton but I feel guilty about it"

I think they make plenty of valid points. My own Hamilton story began in spring last year when I was planning a trip to New York to visit a good friend and of course catch a few shows. I was at a loss of what to book though as very little shouted "see me!" that season. My friend was like "There's this new Off-Broadway show called Hamilton that's getting good buzz" and my initial reaction was "Ugh, American politics/history?" But I had already enjoyed "In the Heights" on a previous NY trip and the whole history/hip hop mix seemed a fun idea, so I said, okay, let's catch this new show Hamilton when it opens on Broadway. We (fairly easily) booked normally-priced tickets ($165) for one of the last previews.
In the following months the hype started around the show, so when we saw it, we did enjoy that great buzz of being "in the room where it happened". Needless to saw I also enjoyed the show a great deal and couldn't wait for the CD to come out. Once I had it, I played it countless times. But I also had to consciously withdraw from the relentless hype - the daily ham4ham stuff on social media, the forum talks (here, too), internet articles and so on. But as the article says "But that’s not really the show’s fault. Don’t hate the playa Nicole, hate the game."
I enjoyed the PBS documentary for the historical background it gave me, showing the historical places and I'm really looking forward to the London production and to hopefully be in the room where it happens again. I've also begun to feel protective towards Hamilton because of the relentless negativity here in Germany where awful schmaltz like Wildhorn is worshipped and Hamilton doesn't generate any interest at all because "it's hip hop, it must be awful".
But I generally agree with the article that it's a bit of a struggle to keep loving Hamilton because of the stratospherical hype around it, so I'm still avoiding alot of articles, social media posts and so on.

It's such a great mix of A listers. I've heard a sample of My Shot, it sounds amazing. It's definitely not a musical theatre version of the song.

My Shot and Quiet Uptown are now available. The rap here isn't Broadway-friendly, so if that's not your cup of tea, Kelly's take on Quiet Uptown is very belty and emotive.

I like both. Totally different but brilliant in their own style. It would have been fun to have a Destiny's Child Schyler Sister track.

Doesn't look like it's on UK iTunes yet. I searched there first before moving to the US store.

My Shot isn't a straight cover, it's a new song that heavily samples the original. So long as you're not expecting the musical version, it's pretty hot, especially Busta's verses at the end with the Hercules Mulligan shout out.
Kelly's Quiet Uptown is going to be divisive. It's a bit overproduced but Kelly's vocals floor me and she does a solid job universalizing the song, so in the end I'm thumbs up. But I can also see how the arrangement could turn some folks off.

Amusing Facebook post from Lin-Manuel Miranda today - sometimes the 'memories' feature on websites can be entertaining...

Any ideas on the casting for London? I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the In The Heights cast are in it. A lot of people seem to want Sam Mackay to play Hamilton. Cleve September would be a great Laurens. I can see Jade Ewen as one of the Schuyler sisters.

Who is "a lot of people"? I'd really rather see an actor who isn't white play a role that has been specified to be played by an actor who isn't white, personally, and I suspect there's "a lot of people" who share my viewpoint too. I don't think we should necessarily expect crossover, casting-wise.

Sia's Satisfied is online floating about. Love her so much, and her vocals are nuts ( and Latifah's verse is great)
