I saw Javier and loved his performance, and I know a lot of people rate his singing/acting over Lin's and personally I prefer his singing voice (not intended as a disservice to Lin who I think has spoken about not being the strongest singer...) anyway, I adored Jaiver and I'm really pleased for him!
I see the alternate question is cleared up, and while it was in particular for Lin originally, I'm sure out of concern for Javier's health they wanted to have the option of an alternate as well.
As for the original cast leaving, they'll have been on Broadway over a year mostly, and with the show longer and with all the opportunities it's surely opened up its hardly a surprise.

And now Phillipa will be leaving too on the 9th July because she'll be doing Amelie in LA this December and then on Broadway next year - that leaves her out of the Hamilton transfer

As much as I love Phillipa's performance, I'm even more excited to see her take on new roles. I look forward to following her career. (Although I have had the privilege of seeing Hamilton twice, I might be more upset about the cast leaving if I hadn't had the chance to see them yet).

Her as Amelie would be a lot of fun! It's great that these cast members are now being seen for and cast in roles that they possibly wouldn't have without Hamilton. Good for them and us, I say!

Really, really, really surprised and shocked with this news. Was really hopeful he's stay after I'd been told he was negotiating. Really sad the leads aren't staying together for longer, I really hope they at least come to London.

They've been on Broadway for a year, plus the Public run so it's nearly 18 months of their lives. I think the Tonys was an appropriate pinnacle!

I don't want to give Hamilton Addict (but look forward to the reaction pic) a heart attack- but from my understanding he probably won't be a part of the "obc" film that they're planning on (so it's not really obc now I guess) (I'm sensing there was drama behind the scenes there, but don't want to speculate too much)

You can protect yourself from being devastated by not getting too emotionally invested. Works for me!

How about they drop a bomb and announce that Leslie is opening the sit-down in Chicago? It's probably very unlikely since he made it clear he wants to tour his new album.

He stated on various interviews that he would like to extend his contract (and even mentioned pay I think)- which is why I think there was drama with the producers, probably not willing to up his pay enough to his liking (which is absurd- they are obviously capable and he is very praised and loved in the role, but we don't really know the politics). Add to that the fact that he won't be in the film now.. fishy is all I'm saying

By "He also noted that as of right now, he's not a part of the show's filming this upcoming week," didn't they mean he's not part of the filming they're doing, not the actual movie? Because that's a ways away.
But anyway, Hamilton is more than its cast. Not to say that cast isn't a huge part of its creation or appeal (Odom Jr's own rallying to get the cast royalties proves that), but as someone who lived through a somewhat similar phenomenon when Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells left Mormon in the same week (I was at both performances), the show can and will live on without its original stars.

Something tells me that they have already done some of the filming though. During Leslie's vlog, Aaron Burr, Sir, one of his guests said that she sat right besides (or behind?) a camera because they were filming.
If they were filming it without the OBC, why would they do it so soon especially if the replacements haven't settled into the cast yet and especially since they have no purpose for the footage yet. The only reason for them to rush to film it now is to preserve the OBC (which is still intact with its leads, but several ensemble members have already departed).
One thing for certain, their communication plan with their casts and departure has been very spotty and lacking in transparency.

I'm not in the know- so this isn't for sure, but I would think a film(ing of the OBC) would require it's own contract (for royalty purposes etc.) and perhaps seperate pay (higher maybe). I feel like there was a falling out regarding the renewal contract, and so Leslie had other terms for doing the film (I guess he has the leverage). Also Jonathan Groff left, so that would make two leads and some ensemble.

Does anyone know why they're filming it?

To quote Lin: to put it in Gringots for a while Translation: to make a sh*t-ton of money in a future date I think they all know that cast is a major draw, at least to the devote fans of the show, and recording like this COULD make sooo much money in the way way future (imagine how much theatre nerds would pay to see a proffesional recording of the original cast of : Les Mis/ Phantom/ Chicago/ Rent/ anything Barbra was in.. or even the really classic ones, I know I'd kill to see the original Show Boat/ My Fair Lady etc.) They have a money cow, and they're milking it... Edit: as for Groff- they have until July 9th and he's pretty busy with his Netflix show I would assume... maybe they'll arrange something though- most of his scenes are completely solo aren't they? maybe they could film those seprately..

They don't have to film it by July 9th. They can bring the originals back if they really want to film it.
