I thought it was really good...four stars for me but could be five with another standout song and an improvement on the acting by Venessa Williams...I thought Andy and Emily were superb and every bit as good as the actors in the film...for me Venessa Williams was a bit of a disappointment...she has all the presence and look required for the part but when she delivers her lines (which are very similar to the film) they fall a bit flat because you are reminded of how brilliant Meryl Streep was...I think she is likely to relax and get into the part a bit more with time. I also thought it ended on a bit of a whimper with "What's right for me", which didn't really do it for me as a song. Music generally is entertaining, diverse and interesting but it could do with one more belter...

Although they should probably stop calling Andy fat when the actress is tiny 😂. So was Anne Hathaway though! It helps to portray the toxic culture and ridiculous standards of Runway I guess.

It sounds more Mrs. Doubtfire than Groundhog Day. Shallow and synthy. But there’s a few songs that aren’t. Just to play devil's advocate (no pun intended), they may not be using full orchestrations/full pit yet until the songs are confirmed as working, not to mention size of Plymouth house/pit compared to Dominion. Not uncommon for tryouts to hold back on number of musicians hired to save on costs but I could be wrong here. Maybe, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a creative choice, it’s quite Kinky Boots. Initially it felt like it was being crass on purpose as a comment on the fashion industry, but then about two thirds of the songs are in the same vein. I just hate that old thin, poppy sound. “Suite from The Devil Wears Prada” by Theodore Shapiro, specifically the first part, is jazzy and fun and propulsive. Just a classier affair. The songs I liked were I Only Love You for Your Body, Dress Your Way Up, The Devil Wears Prada, Paris, City of Dreams, Who’s She?, Seen, Your Twenties and What’s Right for Me. Upon reflection, I enjoyed a lot of the songs! And many of the others were catchy, it’s just the orchestration. They sounds 80s-y but it’s set in 2005. The cast were great. What’s Right for Me was the high point, I thought it was a strong ending. But then it’s straight into the bows, it wraps up really quickly, I think they need to bulk the ending out a bit. And on the whole, the characterisation is a bit thin. The show doesn’t have a ton of heart, it’s slightly soulless. There are some glimmers in I Only Love You for Your Body, Seen, Your Twenties and Miranda’s later scenes. It was very slick for a first preview!

What in that post made you think they haven't made changes to the music or songs? In fairness they said improvements, not changes they quite clearly say changes: "Sigh* whats the point of out of town try outs if they don’t take feedback on board and change the music/songs"

Yeah this show definitely needed major changes, including throwing all songs out (judging by the Chicago response)- so if they haven’t done that, more fool them.

Has anyone seen this in Plymouth yet? I haven’t seen any official reviews of the show so they must be keeping it a surprise until it comes to London.

Plymouth is far away in fairness 😂 😂😂 I am very aware of the distance between London and Plymouth but I would’ve expected some more reviews on here. I would hardly be seeing it as I’m in Belfast.

Even the show itself seems to be playing down the Plymouth run. Go on the website and its all about the London run and opening in October. You have to scroll down to the bottom where there is a small paragraph and hyperlink to plymouth website.

Well I live in Plymouth and I've not even booked tickets for it yet... although to be fair the day it opened was the day I got back from seeing 9 shows in New York, so might give it another week lol.

Tonight was only the third performance in Plymouth, but I didn't see much online after Tuesday's show which did surprise me. They are only doing shows on a Tues, Thurs and Sat in these first preview weeks. I'm going back next Tuesday unless I see a cheap ticket pop up for Saturday.

I’m seeing this in August - £20ish tickets can’t complain.
(Will report back)
I’ve noticed the local BBC has been doing a lot of promo. Including David Furnish this AM.

Well looks like I’m the first one to post on here having seen it tonight. (Yes I made the Plymouth trip especially from up north via London for a couple days) some catchy songs, strong production values - I seem to remember some criticism of the lack of ‘fashion’ in the Chicago run - it’s defo makes up for it now the costumes are elaborate - all the ensemble could be models. I have given this 3 stars for now as I think it still needs some work, tightening up and trimming but that’s what this run is for surely? There were a lot of show people including I think Jerry Mitchell just in front of me so work is ongoing!

I ended up back in Plymouth to see both shows today 😂. A few changes have been made since the first preview and an extra, short scene has been added in the second act, it's really funny so I hope they keep it. Spoke to a lot of the cast who said changes are being made all the time.
I've seen it three times now and love it more each time.

I'm there at the end of July. For anyone still considering making the journey as a day trip by train I saved a fair wad with three tickets in each direction - London** to Bristol Temple Meads, BTM to Tiverton Parkway then staying on the same train TP to Plymouth. Adds up to an hour's journey time though.
** Tickets can cost less for a longer journey. There are stations in the London area from where advance tickets to Bristol via Paddington including the tube are cheaper than just from Paddington.

Does anybody have a report on the aisle / catwalk / walkway?
Hoping whatever happens the Dominion will release some more seats nearer the front as a result of updating the configuration, which is why I ask.
Thanks all. Looking forward to first preview in London!
