TBF I imagine it was Cameron's plan for Poppins to only run for say 2 years then go back on tour.

I wouldn’t mind but I just find that Oliver! production so dark and unappealing. It was my first (and only) West End opening night and I remember being so excited sat there in the Palladium, only to have all the joy sucked out of the piece (I know there shouldn’t be a lot) by Mendes’ dour staging and Prices’ Fagin. A total personal preference though. I wouldn’t be averse to a female Fagin either.

Isn’t the whole depiction of Fagin way too problematic? The character’s gender is the least of their problems I would have thought.

Even though the musical is written and composed by a jew and is more sympathetic compared to the source material?

I live in fear they'll cast Matt Lucas as Fagin

I was thinking Carrie as Nancy might have been a good choice but not now she’s going on tour.

I can't believe it's been so long since its last outing. I really enjoyed the ALW programme.
The Over the Rainbow lot are all about the same age as Carrie aren't they? I wonder if any of those might be suitable.

I would love to see them cast this beautifully like the original Palladium production - Sally Dexter and Miles Anderson were classical RSC actors who brought all of their training and experience to Nancy and Sikes (they were straight out of Dickens), and Jonathan Pryce (while also known for his musical work) too came with his classical and repertory schooling - these three actors elevated the material significantly and were the reason along with Sam Mendes' vivid new production, why the show was such a success in the 1990s. The 2009 revival casting was cheesy, and ever since then the production has gone downhill. But like Mary Poppins and Les Mis, Cameron's taste in good casting has diminished and I'm guessing this Oliver! will have poor casting. I'd love to be surprised!

Jodie was the campest Nancy I've ever seen. I then remember seeing Kerry Ellis when she replaced and she looked so bored. Will never forget her phoning her entire performance in.

Sonia Swaby was great when she did it. Must admit I enjoyed Jodie as Nancy, remember the time i saw her she got a massive applause when she came on.Don't expect the new production will have the same massive cast as last time though.

Sally Dexter was simply the best Nancy we will ever have. She had everything that Cameron Mack wanged on about wanting on that dreadful tv show- like he hadn’t cast a tough and raw Nancy already in her. And then cast cruise ship Nancy.
Ruthie was also fabulous at the Palladium.

I would think CamMack would want this in by the festive season. The perfect show to get the kids tickets to for Christmas.

Mary Poppins extended until 2nd October. Perhaps one last extension to cover Half Term then Oliver moves in before Christmas?

Why am I sensing a Jessie Buckley-as-Nancy coup after she (I think it's happening...) wins the Olivier. I could see it being a big story - the role she was denied nearly 15 years ago, and now takes it on after just doing another classic musical role. Maybe not - she probably has a ton of TV/movie work lined up or some other theatre work. Or maybe she wouldn't even think about taking on this role after not getting the role all those years ago. Thoughts?

God don't tell some posters on this board you've suggested her - shes blacklisted and shouldn't work again apparently!
