The green makeup will make Cynthia's age less obvious

I'm glad they have split the Wicked Movie into two parts and are adding more of the novel as the musical itself feels very rushed.

Tend to agree. It’s hardly hot property any more is it? We’ve seen people fly onscreen for nearly eighty years and they are going to have to do something spectacular to make this worth the trouble. ‘Oz The Great & Powerful’ did some pretty spectacular stuff, which might be worth paying homage to. I wonder if they've just left it a bit too long? I'd need to do a bit more research, but I'm fairly sure most classic musicals were more like ten years from show to screen, not twenty.

Chicago...27 years Cats...38 years Evita...20 years No guarantee of quality by doing it sooner or later. Some shows date more quickly than others.

True. When I said classic I was thinking more of things like My Fair Lady or the R&H ones.
Perhaps a longer gap is just normal for post-70s musicals.
Rent was quicker though. I suppose the closer you do it, it lets you use some of the original stage cast if you want to.

I'd argue Chicago is more like 6 or 7 years as it was the revival that really made it a hot property to drive a film release.
With wicked it could go either way, but with the casting, delays, and the splitting it in two I just don't get good feeling about it. I also disagree on the show feeling rushed, if anything it feels drawn out at times.
I definitely think its time has passed in terms of its hard-core fan base growing up and new generations now latching on to shows like Heathers and Six. It reminds me of Rent in that regard.

Rent was quicker though. I suppose the closer you do it, it lets you use some of the original stage cast if you want to. What's interesting about Rent is that despite being a hit on stage both here and abroad, the movie flopped, despite having the whole of the principal leads in place (with the exception of two*). *At the time Daphne Ruben Vega was pregnant and unable to dance and cavort around those poles in her current state so was replaced by Rosario Dawson, who I thought did a pretty decent job. It was deemed that the actress playing Joanne on Broadway that she was too old to portray her on screen and was replaced by Tracie Thomas, who can sing and later took over the role on Broadway until the show eventually cam to the end of its run and closed.

Was Rent a hit here? compared to the record breaking NYC run, it managed maybe 2 years at the shaftesbury?

Pedantic Dan has to correct Tracie Thomas to Tracie Thoms. Please & thank you.

I read on the Broadway World forums that a lot of the chorus for the Wicked movie is Broadway-based and that they begin parts of the pre-production soundtrack next week in NYC.

I’m not sure that Shawn Mendes cancelled his tour ‘just’ for mental health reasons…

I doubt Shawn Mendes is Fiyero.

I'm not sure who that is, but a quick Google and looks-wise he'd do. Except not with this cast. He and Cynthia would look ridiculous together and Ariana not much better. They really should keep everyone more or less the same age.

There'd also be quite the backlash if it turned out he'd fibbed about his mental health issues and postponed a tour just to make a movie.

surely making a film is a very different thing to going on tour and performing every night for thousands of expectant people. You can still have mental health issues and do other things. He was put partying for his birthday a few weeks back.
I think his tour was going to be over before they even start shooting the movie.

After seeing Patricia Arquette in Severance I think she’d be a terrific Morrible!

Speaking of Miriam as Morrible, she is very naughty.
In the scene where she is talking to Elphaba about the Wizard, she says something like “if you do something for the Wizard, he’ll do much for you” (I can’t remember the exact quote).
She then proceeded to make a rather sexual licking gesture with her tongue at the side of her mouth.
Naturally this made Idina corpse… which was quite funny.
Otherwise, Miriam did a lot of shouting, pointing and absolutely refusing point blank to sing. When Susie Blake took over it was a relief, to be honest - a huge improvement.

Lovely story from my mum, who went with my late Nan to see Wicked with a group of Oxfordshire Carers, who Miriam invited to tea in her dressing room…M&S smoked salmon and sandwiches!
