Unless you can’t understand what’s being sung and the lyricist has to publish what he written in a tweet.

Unless you can’t understand what’s being sung and the lyricist has to publish what he written in a tweet. Lyrics seem to have changed from ‘I am’ bad Cinderella to ‘Call me’ bad Cinderella

Seems a little bit disingenuous to cover the theatre in reviews from the West End production when it does seem to be such a large retooling to the point it has a new name.

Changing “catty name that they call me” to “snotty name” seems unecessary.

Changing “catty name that they call me” to “snotty name” seems unecessary. Going to the effort of changing the word 'catty', but keeping the ableist term 'lame' in (that many people have criticised) is genuinely perplexing to me. I'm very aware that the west end production had so many issues, but I ended up seeing it so many times because the theatre was right on my work doorstep and I often got tickets for as cheap as £10, and developed a bit of a soft spot for it, but honestly I'm already cringing at the thought of how hard this will be bashed on broadway. The original production's humour was about as British tongue and cheek as you can get, and it's also pretty obvious that the lead role was built around CHF (She was basically playing herself with a wig on to honest), so I just really struggle to see how it will translate to an American audience. We've all discussed the lyric, script and plot issues ad noisome, but also the whole thing had a very pantomime vibe that US audiences just won't relate to. Also I personally feel that VHB carried the entire show, I'm surprised that she hasn't had to have major back surgery after so many months to be honest.

Changing “catty name that they call me” to “snotty name” seems unecessary. It's "snarky name". I prefer "catty" though.

Carolee Carmello as the step-mother is the only thing remotely exciting about this transfer…

I don't understand who they're trying to appeal to here.

Have to hand it to them, the marketing is at least an improvement on London. If they had gone this route in London it may have helped a bit. That said, the 'I'm not your cinderella I'm your bad cinderella' line is so so cheesy and cringe. Nor even judi Dench could make it work www.instagram.com/reel/Cl3hwmas-q0/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Linedy looks as conventionally glam as the rest of them. It'll be interesting to see what kind of look they go with for her Cinders, frumpy CHF won't work for her at all.

It looks like someone saw the SNL Disney Housewives sketch and only took away with them the worst part of it.

Once again, Sebastian is way too attractive. Hire a nerdy looking bloke, for heaven's sake!
The stepsisters could be funny. Other than that, meh.

Carolee Carmello has a long history of flops. Will this be a new addition to the collection?

I notice they did not show the men in their S&M outfits. Wonder if they are changing them. If not you will hear the howl from Broadway to London.

First day of rehearsals. The show’s instagram’s posting lots of stories featuring excited actors with beaming faces. Can’t help feeling like this…🫣

How cliched. RUG are clueless at promoting their shows.

A playwright called Alexis Scheer is providing “additional book material.” Wonder if that’s the odd line of dialogue or a major re-write?
Very curious to see how this plays out. Am I right in thinking that while we get plenty of failed Broadway shows, it’s much more rare for them to get one of ours?

A book rewrite is the least of their troubles when the score so dull and derivative.

Even though it’s on another continent it’s still got cack-handed publicity. First a weird series of posts trying to make it look like the cast are getting ‘papped.’ (They aren’t.)
And now there’s a short reel on Instagram of ALW with various members of the cast gathering round him. The song playing over it is Popular. There’s either an amazing lack of self-awareness or someone in his media team is low-key taking the piss. But we’ll see how popular he is when it opens next month, especially if just one bad review made him have a meltdown last time.
Finding the whole thing grimly fascinating.

I'm sure he would be in on that joke, and may have even thought of it, he's not stupid. He hasn't been popular over the last few months so it's clearly an ironic gesture. Why else would a non-ALW show tune be played over the clip? However, it also works as publicity for the show so it hits on a number of levels. If the show fails in New York will you feel happy?
