It's had a WE run. This is as much a 'run' as it is a revival, which is to say it doesn't fit into either box. It is what it is: 20-ish performances to get back up to speed after an 18-month break, and presumably to be filmed: the first is an artistic decision (probably collective), the second a further revenue stream.
Unlikely, but perhaps they're even going to have a bit of a tinker with the original production. Fwiw, I imagine a diverse range of prices and ticket release strategies, perhaps not unlike what we've seen with Macbeth.

It shouldn’t be a warm up for Broadway or off, as this production is funded by the British Tax Payer via grant to the Almeida, same for Tammy Faye. It doesn’t sit well that the tax payer funded this (absolutely no problem with that) but the run is so limited that dynamic prices will be very high (problem) same with Tammy Faye, to have a chance of seeing this at the original venue, membership was the only viable way of guaranteeing a ticket. I really don’t see the problem. It’s giving another opportunity for people to see it. And people to be employed for 3 weeks here. What’s the issue?

I managed to get tickets to see Streetcar at the Almeida, on 2 different dates, without having any sort of membership. Also: presumably any sort of financial contribution made by the tax payer was to fund a run at the Almeida. I would assume that whatever the theatre does with a production after its initial run is a commercial decision - it's "show BUSINESS" after all. I'm no fan of expensive tickets, or dynamic prices, but I appreciate that this is, unfortunately, the world we live in. Where do we draw a line? Do we, the "British Tax Payers" have any claim on profits made by Stephen Daldry's production of An Inspector Calls which originated at the National Theatre? Should we get a rebate because the Almeida's production of, say, The Comeuppance, didn't have a life beyond its run in N1....?

How much is the Vat on 16,000 tickets and income tax/NI on the actors/crew ..
Let's call it £45 a pop on average. £45 x 16,000 = £720,000
20% Vat = £144,000.
Income tax/NI on the actors/crew, theatre staff = £frightening
Potential income from streaming = £don't care

Do you have a source for it being funded by the tax payer? Considering the state of gov arts funding this seems really unlikely to me?

Let's see the prices before we jump down their throat lol Might even have a ticket lottery again! At the very least, they might be able to record it for NT at home Yes I’ve heard the 3 week run is to get it filmed, cheaper to do that in the UK than Broadway I believe?

Quote above used to enable links on this board - this is not a direct response to the quote.
I assume that the Almeida get a financial gain from their production in subsequent venues? This used to be the case in the past - and going from the promotion for the Phoenix run on the Almeida website, would seem to have been the case here:- The artwork on the posters also prominently state Almeida West End. Any increase in income for the theatre is to be welcomed, and will ultimately benefit the tax-payer over and above the initial grant (whether to the theatre or an individual production). Especially given the decline in subsidies over the past decade or so.
I cannot find details yet of the Noel Coward run, but the BAM run has all the creatives from the Islington venue listed.
I hope the filming is for a cinema release .....

The filming will definitely be for cinemas. The Almeida needs the money, and Mescal will want his Stanley in formaldehyde.

Whatever you say Dearie..... Well, citing popularity and/or commercial success doesn't invalidate an opinion based on perceived quality and/or competence. It could be argued that the more popular/successful an artist is, the more valuable are contrary opinions. Not that I agree with parsley1 re Frecknall. I loved Summer and Smoke and Three Sisters was interesting. I found her Streetcar ok but had expected more after S&S had suggested she would handle Williams particularly well; frankly. it was a bit of a disappointment compared with, say, the Weiss, Cowan, Wilson (dir Rob Ashford) effort at the Donmar a while back.

Whatever you say Dearie..... On the same principle That Donald Trump is excellent as he has been elected back into power And McDonalds and Primark are excellent because lots of people go there And Marvel films are the epitome of intellect Yes excellent logic you use Were it not for her use of stunt casting no one would care about her as a director Let’s see if she has the confidence to direct a new play with an unknown cast People see her shows for the actors certainly not for her contribution

She certainly helps herself hugely by casting star names , selling her shows out before opening and creating a buzz regardless of whether the show is good or not.
I liked Streetcar… loved Summer and Smoke… but found Cabaret to be like watching a student production. Not sure how she got away with that one actually.
