I hope they'll find a Blanche that looks the part.
How so?

I hope they'll find a Blanche that looks the part. It's bad news for jr but good news for those of us who are fans of talent over cookie-cutter casting.

Are Patsy and Anjana returning?
Find it odd that they’re not mentioned and it’s just “Paul Mescal and company”.

Crikey - a 3 week run and coming straight off the back of Gladiator 2 - this will be a HOT ticket! Very glad I saw it at the Phoenix so won't need to join the inevitable bunfight for tickets. The prices'll be horrendous, although hopefully with it being a DM theatre that might reign in ATG's worst excesses...

Excellent spot from dr, followed by great teamwork on theatre availability. TheatreBoard at its best! 👍

The dates for this are just one weekend off what I was planning for so if I can get a ticket for this I might have to shift my plans forward a week!

Excellent spot from dr , followed by great teamwork on theatre availability. TheatreBoard at its best! 👍 It's the production I think about the most, and I'm so glad it's back. Frecknall has a deservedly busy year next year, full of projects with promise: two Williams plays (united by Normal People cast members), A Moon for the Misbegotten with Ruth Wilson, and possibly the Gatsby musical, whatever is happening with that.

I hope they'll find a Blanche that looks the part. It's bad news for jr but good news for those of us who are fans of talent over cookie-cutter casting. I understand that we all have different taste but I have seen Patsy Ferran in several plays and not a fan (same with R Frecknall, The house of Bernarda Alba was terrible). I actually had a ticket for the Almeida that I returned, so I am glad that someone could enjoy it. As for cookie-cutter casting, some unknown actors who have played the role: Gillian Anderson Ann-Margret Tallulah Bankhead Cate Blanchett Blythe Danner Gretchen Egolf Renée Fleming Uta Hagen Rosemary Harris Isabelle Huppert Yvonne Kenny Maria Kraakman Jessica Lange Vivien Leigh Lois Nettleton Carrie Nye Angelica Page Geraldine Page Nicole Ari Parker Maxine Peake Natasha Richardson Amy Ryan Jessica Tandy Rachel Weisz Julie Kavner

So jr , she's not attractive enough for you to bother with?

I usually don't get into arguments here.
But just to clarify, I did not mention PF being attractive or not. I just expressed that to me she did not look the part of an aging Southern belle as described by the author. I have also said that having seen her in other plays she is not my type of actor.
I'm afraid we cannot all have the same likes and dislikes. I'm glad that other people enjoyed the production but I would be more interested in it with a different cast.

I am assuming the only actor from the original cast returning is PM or they would have announced all three leads instead of "and company"? Perhaps as the Off-broadway run is longer than the three weeks in London they will be American actors?

I went to see it because of Patsy Ferran, who I think is brilliant. Thought she was splendid in this, as were the others, but I will always see any play with Patsy Ferran in it!

Ditto, patsy has been great in all the theatre I've seen her in.
Hope the original cast gets to Broadway. I thought they were great together

Are Patsy and Anjana returning? Find it odd that they’re not mentioned and it’s just “Paul Mescal and company”. The only way they won’t return is if they are otherwise booked. I love Patsy Ferran and she did a brilliant Job to step in so late- but she would never have been cast in this normally (as Blanche) and I’d like to see someone more suitable in the part. Fully expecting her to do this again though.

I just think this is an appalling cash grab, after Paul Mascal coming from a big film and only to do a 3 week run, when this played last year it was only a month at the Phoenix and tickets were unaffordable then sold out because of. Glad I saw it for £20 at the Almeida though.
I wonder if the Wardrobe Assistant vacancy who generated the speculation, could afford a ticket?

Anyhow, we shall all probably have to wait and see no doubt

I've no issue with it coming in for 3 weeks before it heads to Brooklyn but I would imagine the prices will be sky high. I'm relieved to have seen it, so that I can happily skip this particular bunfight.

Not necessarily a cash grab, as mentioned previously in the thread, It’s a pretty good warm up for broadway.

It shouldn’t be a warm up for Broadway or off, as this production is funded by the British Tax Payer via grant to the Almeida, same for Tammy Faye. It doesn’t sit well that the tax payer funded this (absolutely no problem with that) but the run is so limited that dynamic prices will be very high (problem) same with Tammy Faye, to have a chance of seeing this at the original venue, membership was the only viable way of guaranteeing a ticket.

I did enjoy this last time round (mainly because of Patsy Ferran and Anjana Vasan) but Paul Mescal is really starting to grate on me. Maybe it’s just over exposure. He is a great actor in the right role but the last couple of years he just comes across as fame hungry and not as genuine as he has led people to believe. All his interviews come across as a little arrogant and the shine is starting to wear off.
Happy to miss this one unless they have the same female leads or alternatives I want to see.

I got cheap tickets for both shows and not an Almeida member.

Let's see the prices before we jump down their throat lol
Might even have a ticket lottery again!
At the very least, they might be able to record it for NT at home
