A bit of a left field choice for CHF to have Brecht as a first play choice but hopefully this will have less scandal that Cinders. Well at least the youths will see something more interesting that Heathers.

Really interested to see how she holds up doing a play instead of a musical for once

There’s songs in this apparently.

It typically has songs. But they're almost always different.

I've no idea why the Rose appointed Christopher Haydon as AD, I couldn't think of a more unsuitable choice either for them or for him. My guess is that Brecht is not something the theatregoers of Kingston have been calling out for. It might be a set book though I suppose.

Small request to not keep re-quoting posts with huge attachments when the original post/attachment is only a few posts above. It’s not necessary and makes the thread really hard to read. Cheers!

Hmm, interesting casting. I booked this when it was first announced for earlier this year, and have rebooked for October. I know it wasn't selling at all well for the original dates, so it will be interesting to see if CHF brings in a different audience. I'm looking forward to it anyway, even if the people of Kingston aren't.

The Rose is a short(ish) bus trip away from us and this seems like a good chance to try out their £10 secret seats, so I've booked a couple of them.

I can’t wait for patrons of the Rose Theatre to turn up for a bit of Brecht to find themselves surrounded by Carrie Tweens. And I can’t wait for the Carrie Tweens to experience their first Brecht!
Stage door will be fun.
I will give CHF props for the voice (except in Heathers) but I’ve seen her in 4 musicals now and the acting has been basic to say the least. So I hope she’ll invest in some coaching for this (she won’t) and not embarrass herself generally.

I can’t wait for patrons of the Rose Theatre to turn up for a bit of Brecht ... They won't. They should have cast Gyles Brandreth in it. Brecht is a hard sell anywhere - "Here's the song of the road sweeper". Haydon at the Rose seems totally wrong for both of them, just as Tom Littler at the Orange Tree seems totally right for both of them.

I actually think this play is a great move for Carrie - maybe she’ll surprise us?
If she really buckles down and works hard to portray the character well, and focuses her energy on smashing this role instead of calling out people who are criticising her relationship on social media, then I feel that this could open a lot of doors for her!
I’m rooting for her, but we’ll see.

Unless they’re suddenly turning the incidental music into a full blown musical here. I don’t see the connection. It’s almost like she’s ticking a bucket list of stuff: influencer ✅ Musical theatre ✅ Fashion line ✅ Author ✅ Now ‘Serious’ actor ✅ She’s got a great agent. And obviously a ‘following’ Not sure how many of her loyal teens will want to repeat watch CCC. It’s not exactly Heathers ...

Unless they cast the leads in Moulin Rouge.

I agree Carries acting skills are definitely her weakest area and if she doesn’t work on it then this could be a disaster, but I applaud her for at least broadening her scope and trying something a bit different. Her CV at the moment is full of repeat shows and then roles that all fall under the light entertainment, comedy style characters that relate to young audiences, so if she’s focused and does this well I feel like it could be a whole new chapter in her career. Saying that, most of her fan base appeared to be young girls who appeared to be teenagers or in their early 20s at Cinderella, so I’m not sure they’ll enjoy this!

She’s aged out of ‘teen’ roles now and has suffered with throat issues on Heathers and Cinderella. Maybe this is her insurance against her voice giving out

For Brecht fans - should such people exist - The Good Person of Szechwan will be on in Sheffield and at the Lyric Hammersmith in Spring 2023 in an ETT production. ett.org.uk/our-work/the-good-person-of-szechwan/ETT are also doing a version of The Cherry Orchard set in space.
