Anyone on here a fan of game shows. It really started during lockdown when I had a lot of time on my hands so watching a couple of shows like The Chase and Tipping Point and I found that despite getting frustrated with the contestants that I was able to play along and get most of the answers and now I'm become a real trivia nerd. I've even started to apply for a couple of shows as well although it's not easy to get on.

I am the proud owner of a coveted Pointless trophy. I've always wanted to go on Pointless but none of my friends and family want to pair up with me. My cousin was on Pointless a few years ago and won 9 grand. I do love some of the dumb answers you can get on these shows, there was one on Tipping Point a few weeks back where the contestant answered Admiral for Lord Nelson's first name.

Only Connect is my favourite, it's the only one I record to make sure I don't miss an episode!

The only one that come close to topping it is this corker from Tipping Point and that show has many corkers!:

Only Connect is my favourite, it's the only one I record to make sure I don't miss an episode! That's the one I'm keen to go on - I do alright watching it from home but I'd be terrified I got on it and froze completely! I nearly sent in my form this year, decided not to, and have regretted it since! Maybe next year...

Only Connect and Countdown are ones I've ruled out applying just because I struggle when playing along although I do feel smug when I get a connection on the connecting wall and the team fail to get it.

I like to watch Family Feud or Fortunes for stupid answers.
This one seems pretty apt at the moment

The only time I have been able to answer a question on University Challenge was when they did a Sondheim round and I got them all right.

Let’s go as a TheatreBoard pair. I’ve been on The Chase and Fifteen to One. I love quiz shows. However, they have to be won on merit. I don’t like ones that involve luck, like Tipping Point, but especially Deal or no Deal.

I do enjoy Tipping Point but there are times the contestants get on my nerves either because of their woeful lack of general knowledge or having terrible timing when pressing the button to release the counters and being surprised when they get a rider.
The Hit List is another one I quite like and it's good because it's music based.

I like Pointless but my favourite is Richard Osmans House of Games (wish there was a non celeb version so i could go on it lol).
Also like Catchphrase, but the non celebrity one.
I don't mind the music quiz that the Humes present on BBC.
Also Jeopardy from america when Netflix have it on

I dip in and out of show as I like quizzes but never watch one religiously. Some gameshows you'd used to watch if there was a good comedian or presenter but sadly we don't have the likes of Brucie anymore

My brother-in-law has been on lots. The highlight is probably Crystal Maze with Richard OBrien (oh on topic for this board as well). He was the team leader and the scored something like minus 70 which I think was the worst record at the time. his best prize was a set of luggage on the Paul Daniel's one whose name escapes me.

Whoever controls the buzzer for a wrong answer usually delays the buzzer to keep everyone in suspense. With the JR answer, the buzzer went as soon as Alexander Armstrong turned. My favorite (discovered as an American visiting England) is QI. Not technically a quiz show, I suppose, but I love the combination of smart, interesting trivia and smart comedy. (It was more potty/peepee humor under Stephen Fry, but some of the things Sandy Toksvig comes out with are hilarious. Her 'smart vagina' comment is one of my favorites, not least because of how uncomfortable it made Alan Davies.) It's interesting that UK quiz shows are generally less 'shouty' than American ones (although I suppose that's a difference between quiz shows and game shows), and that the cash prizes in the UK are substantially smaller. Do your winners have to pay taxes on their prizes? (In the US, they do. I've heard of people turning down a high-value prize for a cash equivalent, so they're not out of pocket.)

Winnings aren't taxed in the UK so if you win a grand, you get the whole amount.

Winnings aren't taxed in the UK Just more evidence that the UK is far more civilized than the US.

Just more evidence that the UK is far more civilized than the US. The UK didn't have big money prizes until the 1990s as there was a cap that restricted how much you could have as prize money and the max was £6000.

Yes I can recall there being a limit, I don't know if it applied to shows like The Price Is Right where you won prizes. Didn't Bob Monkhouse push to have it risen when he did the £64,000 question and max prize was £6,400 which he had got amount raised too.

Blankety Blanks prizes were always very cheap I doubt top prize was even worth a grand.

A quick bit of searching reminds me that the Blankety Blank consolation prize was a BB chequebook and pen. "We don't want you to feel like a loser today. We want you to feel like a loser every time you write a cheque for the next few weeks until you dump this crap in the bin."
