The actor Raymond Mason has died aged 97. Not a familiar name but undoubtedly a familiar face on TV for many decades. He played over 1000 different roles on TV not counting scores of adverts. He was in Fawlty Towers in “The Kipper and the Corpse” and played played five different roles in Crossroads over 20 years: “I don’t think anyone ever noticed, and I don’t put it down to versatility”. Once, when he was 13, he briefly sat on Joan Crawford’s knee.
