Anyone catching this? I booked for its visit to the Southbank later this month. In fact I booked in February 2015 (I then asked for leave in June/July for it, only to realise that the dates were 2016 and not 2015 - so I've been a while waiting for this!). I did think this would be a week immersed in Wagner (for good or ill), but have broken it up with a booking to Into the Woods part way through - somewhat of a change!

We're going. And like you, booked an awfully long time ago. I'm very much looking forward to it.

I'm booked for it. I'm really curious to see a concert-style Ring cycle.

So ... half way through, what's the consensus here? I think this has been a marvellous Ring thus far, and my husband, who is not familiar with the music or the story, has really appreciated the way the story has been portrayed, as well as very much enjoying the operas for what they are.

Occurred to me this evening that with this, the ENO and Hobson's Choice it's possible to see Siegfried, Tristan and James Herriot on stage in one weekend

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04pd0td BBC4 showed the first of the 4 Ring Operas performed by Opera North, last (sunday) night. All 4 are currently available on iplayer but I can't find out when Wlakure and the others are due to be broadcast?

The implication of what I've read is that the other 3 will not be shown on TV, just on line or via iplayer, available for 6 months www.thespace.org/artwork/ring-changes-wagners-epic-mastepieceWhich seems odd (although I guess 5 hour chunks of Wagner would stop BBC4 from showing repeats of documentaries about trains for an evening)

Ah yes, the well known Standing In The Carriage Vestibule Of the Valkyries.

Must be 35+ years ago when BBC2 showed the entire Ring in, (I think from memory ) 1 hr chunks on 16 consecutive Sunday nights. Boulez was the conductor and it was a very modern production. (Availlable to day on DVD) I was more into Led Zep in those days!

I think the Chereau Ring was broadcast in 1980, though as that was 5 years before i was born I'm going by what I've read about it rather than personal experience! I actually viewed it in a similar way when I got it on DVD, wachining 1 act a day. I watched the ON Rheingold last night and while I enjoyed the performances, including recognising singers I've seen live in other roles, I found the split screens & overlaying singers with projections annoying.

The split screen was annoying and we really didn't need to see the conductor.
Have downloaded all the others after realising only Rhinegold gets a TV showing.
Bad form, BBC.
