Just walking past the theatre and there are loads of people going in with tickets, all getting bag checked and body scanned with those handheld detectors before they go into the building.
Have performances started yet? Must be an invited dress or press event?

Perhaps they're doing a dummy run to see how long it actually takes to strip search and x-ray the entire audience and get them all to their seats?

They just never released tickets to the public... It's so exciting! And at the same time scary because spoilers may start leaking any time now... I wont lie, Sam Clemmett (Albus) is cute #is_he_legal lol he is. He's actually 22, playing an 11 year old... |

He's actually 22, playing an 11 year old... Is Albus definitely 11? I was surprised at how old he looked in the photo, makes complete sense knowing how old he is. From the picture I was guessing they were going for a teenage Albus but if he's meant to be 11 that's a bit odd. Unless of course they just don't want multiple children sharing the roles and masses of chaperones. |

Timelinewise, it seems to be about the same time as the epilogue, as far as I can tell. But this isn't the first play with adults playing children (His Dark Materials, any Peter Pan) so there's no reason for it not to work.

It hasn't been explicitly stated, but it's been said that the play takes place 19 years after Deathly Hallows, which would mean it picks up right after the epilogue. Also, when sharing today's images, they said Albus was pictured ready "for his first day at Hogwarts," so that pretty much confirms it. I do think that the reason he was cast older is to avoid having different children sharing the role. It looks like he'll be a central part of the play, so they may want to have a single actor playing him. |

Of course it can and will work having an older actor play an 11 year old. I do keep meaning to see the Railway Children and they are all adults. It does make sense to just have one person playing him, not only does it not complicate things with multiple casts but he won't grow and need to be recast soon. |

Cherrelle Skeete this morning confirmed as playing Rose Granger-Weasley, and the kids are definitely 11 and about to start Hogwarts. Apparently we only have two more of these cast portraits to come tomorrow, but at least we've now had all the actors who we already know which role they're playing, so tomorrow will be new casting news.

Cast photos of Ron, Hermione and their daughter Rose have been released today. Rose looks to be roughly a similar age to the Albus actor.
Cue the bigoted race comments.

I can understand people's comments to a certain degree, for many it's a beloved character they have grown up with and had an image in their mind (plus the movie) and the play is completely changing that image. Not saying that's right or wrong, but I can understand people's surprise.
Personally the only issue is have is Harry ron and hermione all look different ages in the photos.

'Cos Henry V was a real historical person who was white, and what with Laurence Olivier and Kenneth Branagh there'll have been a popular image in people's minds too, so I'd be interested to hear if there was a comparable backlash.

Laurence Olivier was English, Kenneth Branagh is Irish and Henry V was Welsh.

At that time, there was much less opportunity for everyone to instantly fire off public comments whereas, today, Twitter encourages extreme reactions, to get attention. I think that National Theatre audiences generally understood that Henry V is a piece of theatre and not a documentary. |

Umm, we are aware that Harry Potter is a children's story, right? Harry Potter may be a children's story, but there is still something inauthentic about the casting. Jamie Parker is a muggle. Harry Potter is not a muggle. Why can't real wizards and witches ever catch a break? I mean Noma Dumezweni is a muggle too right, AND now I learn that Paul Thornley is yet another muggle! Until they cast Merlin as Harry Potter, Morgana Le Fay as Hermione and Mordred as Ron, I'm not going! NB: I know Mordred as Ron is a little edgy, but sometimes a little edge helps. |

Oh please, Steve, ANY Potterhead knows that Merlin was a Slytherin and therefore would be COMPLETELY inappropriate casting for Harry Potter, one of the most famous Gryffindors that ever did Gryff. |
