Looking at venue dates... a six-week run at the Prince Edward after Poppins before ATP opens at the end of March. With 5 weeks to sell it if it went on sale on Friday? I think not alternatively the other end of Ain't Too Proud before MJ opens March 24

It ended up on Sky Arts didn’t it - along with the Cameron Mackintosh puff piece documentary. Glad to see the BBC picking this up as it will have a far wider audience. But considerably later than originally advertised, 2/3 years right? Good point, hasn’t realised it was such a gap (closed in 2017, broadcast Dec 2021)! Very excited for a new West End run for the Sondheim concert - I’ve never been that sold on Bernadette Peters personally, but can’t deny her status in, and connection to, the Sondheim canon. Just hoping that prices aren’t going to be too crazy…

There is ZERO chance it will be anything like the original line up. Salaries alone wouldn't make it possible. It will probably be about 6 people, and maybe they'll swap people in and out during the run, depending on availablility. I didn’t say that. They are staging the concert again, with Bernadette headlining- but a less starry line up performing the same numbers. I didn't say you did. Calm down, dear.

Also delighted I didn't shell out for a ticket given the crazy ticket prices, but feel sorry for those who paid serious money for a filmed relay at a nearby performance, only to find out they could have saved a packet by watching it on iplayer a few months later.

Yes but they got a free bottle of prosecco and a programme. We also got a visit from many of the leads, led by Cameron, who popped onto the stage to thank us for coming (then whizzed themselves back down the road to the Queens). It was worth every penny (the the lovely programme and decent prosecco didn't hurt either).

Glad to hear it! I'm just being a tight arse. Listen, money is short these days so I get your point. I paid £175 to be in the Sondheim theatre in the night and, to be honest, don't regret it at all. One of my best theatre experiences of all time.

They recorded both the dress and the evening, so we stand a chance of getting Judi Dench actually singing the right words to Send In The Clowns, and AJ Casey not getting lost in the middle of Getting Married Today ( which she took on at the 11th hour, and by all accounts smashed in the matinee) Am I right in my suspicion that Getting Married Today was originally going to be performed by Hannah Waddingham? I had a hunch on the evening as it seemed staged as a proper "star" entrance, and we'd already seen AJC do a number. She was brilliant, but I would have loved to see Waddingham do it!

I think AJ stepped in for one or two extra songs and nailed it as always

You are correct indeed. She was also due to sing Children Will Listen with Bernadette, and I THINK Ladies Who Lunch (although Haydn Gwynne did a stellar job)

Ohhh? Interesting. I assumed she was meant to sing Could I Leave You. I thought that because there. Was. So. Much. Michael Ball.
I had guessed he did it last minute as he’s done the song before.

If the listings are correct the concert is due to be shown on BBC2 New Year's Eve. 2 hours and 10 mins, so as I predicted earlier in the thread, this will be a cut down version of the concert which was just under 3 hours. Shame but its better than nothing. Hopefully there will be a DVD of the full version at a later stage.

I'd argue we'll lose less than you think - the interval was nearly half an hour, and the full show ran at was done by 10:50 and didn't start on time so I actually think we'll lose a maximum of 15 minutes (both Michael Ball numbers sounds good to me, and trim down the Sweeney section as it went ON)

The transfer is definitely happening, Cameron has been asking around the performers if they will do it 👀 the 2 I spoke to appear to be in …

Amazing editing, the way it's in time to the music. Let's hope the recording is of that quality which I'm sure it will be. We now need a DVD so that we can keep it forever.

Very odd scheduling for one of their supposed seasonal highlights. Would have been much better on the Sunday evening. Ah well, there's always catch-up.

To us theatre fans Sondheim is God but I would doubt most people have even heard of him. They will have heard of some of the performers like Judi Dench,Damian Lewis and Michael Ball but that's about it.
