I promise you, there are some huge international names. They may end up being "surprise appearances" though depending on their health. Oh I was just speculating, I wasn't implying you were wrong or lying - especially since I didn't see your original post! And I should add they may not be there at all, which would make me a liar! 🤣 But I know of at least one more confirmed domestic star and two who will be coming depending on health. International flying and then working for essentially expenses is a big deal at a certain age. I won't even be there myself, just sharing the tidbits I get from quality sources.

Surely Angela Lansbury has to be one of them? And of course health sadly would be one of her priorities at the moment. She may not want to announce it until on stage in case she can’t make it.

I don't understand why they are doing this in such a small venue. Seems like it would have made more sense to do this at Royal Albert Hall considering how many people would buy tickets for this. Because Cameron M has a majority share in MTI that licenses Sondheim's music and also owns the Sondheim Theatre, which he'd want to informally "christen" with a Sondheim bonanza

I think…
Adrian Lester - Being Alive Michael Ball & Imelda Staunton - A Little Priest Elaine Paige - I’m Still Here Judi Dench - Send in the Clowns Bernadette - Children Will Listen
Leaving plum numbers like Rose’s Turn, The Ladies Who Lunch, anything from WSS for more unannounced divas? (Baranski, Audra, Patinkin…?)

Tyne Daly? Chita Rivera? Rita Moreno? Donna McKechnie? Nathan Lane? Len Cariou? George Hearn? Victor Garber? Lonny Price? Mandy Patinkin? Chip Zien? Joanna Gleason? Michael Cerveris? Neil Patrick Harris?
If they wanted to pick from a list of U.S. names...

I think there will only be 1 or 2 token Americans. After all this is our British tribute to him. The Americans will, or have had their own. Maybe Dame Julie?

Could you possibly ask your source why on earth this isn't in a bigger venue please? I can understand it only being one performance given the names involved, but it is ludicrous they aren't using a larger venue.

Seeing as people can ask for refunds if Patti misses a performance of Company, I don’t think she’d fly over to do this during the run.

It's a Sondheim concert. In the Sondheim theatre.
They're doing it to be in the theatre dedicated to him. That's why.

It's a Sondheim concert. In the Sondheim theatre. They're doing it to be in the theatre dedicated to him. That's why. Losing thousands of pounds just for the optics of saying it's in the Sondheim theatre is a really stupid commercial decision, and also potentially denying the charitable foundation an awful lot of money.

I'm actually really glad it's at the Sondheim instead of the Albert Hall or similar, though of course I wish there were more performances so more people who want to could go. It's a whole different experience seeing something like this in a relatively intimate setting than sat in one of the stalls seats at the RAH - not to mention the arena seating is dire beyond the first few rows and the balcony (and some boxes) feels like another planet. I'd be gutted if they moved it. Maybe a matinee or open dress rehearsal would be another way to give people the chance, I don't know.

Looking at the website RAH is already booked on 3rd May… there will have been lots of considerations for staging this including the venue - not least the availability of the performers!

I’m sure not having to pay rent to someone else was part of the considerations too.

Also RAH acoustics are abysmal, especially for one off events

A lot of venues have a backlog of shows they need to reschedule due to Covid, I suspect it could have gone to one of Cameron's bigger theatres but Sondheim at the Sondheim has a nice ring to it.

What does Julie Walters have to do with a Sondheim event? Julie Andrews Exactly. I'd love to hear a Sondheim version of Two Soups!
