Do they watch it anywhere other than here & Oz? Because with those viewing figures you’d have to wonder why bother?

Even Corrie and EastEnders will have to end one day.

JD’s been asked lots of times, but he’s always said that the publicity around it would overshadow the moment itself, which is why he’s said no every time.

That would be true if he were to just make an appearance while the series was ongoing, I'm almost certain they'll do it for the finale. After all, neither of them would have careers without it.

Reading more about the axing, it seems that Channel 5 and Fremantle who make Neighbours came to a stalemate in negotiations and Channel 5 decided to walk.

Channnel 5 are losing £5 million a year on Neighbours deal and they want to do more homemade drama. Neighbours only has a regular cast of about 25 including a couple of child actors which is a much smaller cast than Corrie or EE. It apparently has a fast turnaround going from scene to scene so the production costs must have been cut there.
Jason's real life daughter is in Neighbours at the moment too and he has been on set to see her I noticed one of them had posted on Insta last year and it was highlighted.
Jane is now back in Neighbours, Des has returned a few times too in recent years so I can see the Mullet generation possibly coming back if show does end.
I watch it and like it. I know it can be corny but it's not as gloomy as EE and you get some nice eye candy for all persuasions.

Channel 5 have been on a very expensive contract with Neighbours from 15 years ago which they managed to get lowered in recent years but clearly they could not justify the cost anymore.

I can remember they outbid the Beeb for it so probably paid a hefty price but that was before we had so many channels and if they are losing £5 million a year through it for what is a daytime and then early evening show then that money and the cost of paying for Neighbours can be ploughed into original dramas across their schedule and or other original content.

Are there any originals left?

Channel 5's commitments have changed and I think rightly they wanted to pay less for Neighbours but Fremantle, the production company wouldn't budge.

Are there any originals left? Paul Robinson who was in first episode but left for decade from around 1993 is still in it since coming back in about 2004. Dr Clive Gibbons who was an early character has returned in last couple of years. My teen crush Jane Harris who was in during the peak years also returned in last couple of years. Carl and Susan Kennedy and Toadfish are longest current running characters all having been in the show since mid 1990s.

They should go for full on Little House on the Prairie style destruction. Newly psycho Harlow can help her serial killer Dad escape from prison and kill off the entire cast and blow up the sets.

They should do what Emmerdale did and have a plane crash but go the full hog and have everyone wiped out by it (I haven’t watched it since the mid 90s but it sounds like most of the usual suspects are still in it, but I’m sure they will get plenty of panto offers over here once it ends)

One of the greatest soap stories ever that. Plain Jane turned into a supermodel by removing her glasses

Jane they curled her hair a bit and took the very thick rimmed glasses off.
Daphne gave birth still wearing her tights of course.
I always remembered when they had Scott, Shane and Henry all sat on a settee together and it was like a mullet society meeting.

Confirmed beyond any doubt today. Harold Bishop is definitely coming back, I wonder if they can convince Kylie, Jason, Mark Little, Guy Pearce, Margot Robbie et al to return to the show, without which they wouldn't have careers, for the finale?

They have said on hiatus but if backers haven't been found I do wonder if it will ever return. I'd assume Lou Carpenter might come back if the guy who plays him fancies a cameo as he is well into his 80's now. But so is Ian Smith who plays Harold and they had a lot of on screen scenes together so fingers crossed.
Jason's daughter is in Neighbours and filmed scenes in UK last year so him returning would seem logical but a lot would depend what his commitments are before filming wraps. Kylie likewise and there was a story she is moving back to Oz. Mark Little (Joe Mangle) has returned a few times and I think he still lives in UK. His on screen niece Jane is back in show so easy storyline to get him back in.
Natalie the Singing Panda's on screen son is in show so her return is there if they wanted to do it.
Des Clarke has been back a few times so will likely put in an appearance too.
The ones in made it in Hollywood would be less likely but with Zoom they could easily be on a call to make a brief cameo.
