Anyone going to the midnight shows? Critics seemed generally impressed but what about the paying punters…..? Has JB saved cinema for you?

Not seeing a midnight showing, but I'm booked tomorrow night. Mainly because a friend wanted to see it. To be honest I slept through the last two, so if it keeps me awake I'll put it down as excellent!

Gonna admit to never having watched a Bond film from start to finish. I might give this one a go since I have my Odeon Limitless card anyway. Nice to finally see Cinemas getting booked up again in a way they haven't in a long time.

Going to see it on Sunday afternoon: I’ve never been THAT excited about a James Bond film that I’d want to go to a screening at midnight (or any other film, come to think about it), mostly because it’s the idea of not getting home until about four in the morning on a weekday after.

It looks great but 2hrs 43mins long is easily an hour too long. There isn’t a story in the world that can’t be told in 90 minutes with a bit of judicious editing. More self indulgence by the director! Don’t they realise people have buses to catch? 😑

Brilliant movie, highly recommended. Just felt 30 minutes too long, but it has that "epic" feel

OK, nothing more, nothing less. Could have lost an hour without any impact to the story.

Will be interesting to see where the Bond franchise go from here. Eon tends to follow whatever trends are working with audiences, the gritty Bond we got in the Craig era was inspired by Bourne and also Batman so a return to the fun, lighter Bond might be on the card given how successful the Marvel films are.

Haven’t seen it yet, but have to say thou that Daniel Craig is an excellent Bond, if not the best.
His Bentley drove past me the other day in Baker Street, his last 3 letters of his registration plate is ‘SPY’. His car is a head turner and certainly stands out.

After seeing that pink velvet tuxedo/whatever it was supposed to be that Craig wore to the premiere the other night, I think an Austin Powers influence might be on the horizon.

I do find the media narrative that Bond is to save cinema a bit weird considering Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has done well as has Free Guy.

Way too long, and frankly the more they shift Bond away from his original fictional persona - the Empire-bred, Mayfair-living, chain-smoking, hard-drinking, womanising, emotionally stunted brute, the more redundant he becomes. Time for a new British fantasy hero, one that can ignore its real status in the world and the appalling reality of its ruling class.

Although I do like the Craig Bond films, I feel that other film franchises like Mission Impossible has embraced their ridiculous nature and having fun with it which has been a bit lacking in the Craig Bond films.

They have done relatively well, but nothing on the level that Bond will have. Actually I saw Free Guy a week after opening in a completely full Odeon Haymarket (luxe). Only around 60 seats in the screen but it got such a good reaction. I LOVED Shang Chi though - probably one of the best Marvel films.

Have to admit, there's quite a few films I want to see in October aside from No Time to Die such as Dune, The French Dispatch and Last Night in Soho. Dune in particular looks incredible although it's another long 'un at 155 minutes.

I'll agree on Dune and Last Night in Soho - French Dispatch doesn't appeal at all! Also looking forward to House of Gucci and Eternals
Some other films I've really enjoyed since the reopenings: Dream Horse, Cruella, In the Heights, The Father, Quiet Place 2, Jungle Cruise, Herself.

Absolutely loved this today. A sort of bastard child of Moonraker & OHMSS, it has firepower and emotion. Neatly tied up all of the soapy nonsense of the past few films (Blofeld as Bonds stepbrother etc…it isn’t ‘Hollyoaks’!’ ) Really interested to see where the series goes next.

I really like Daniel Craig as bond but I've not liked any of his movies really, and I've yet to finish the last one. I think they were so focused on making it more gritty and real like the Bourne films, they've taken a lot away of what was enjoyable about bond . Will just wait dvd or streaming for this one

Aren’t there going to be any more Kingsman films? There’s another one that’s been sitting on the shelf for god knows how long with Ralph Fiennes and Rhys Ifans but it’s set well before the other films (Ifans plays Rasputin which should give you an idea of when it’s set) : I saw the trailer for it in a cinema months ago, might even have been last year.

I loved it but I'm just a sucker for Bond - but I totally get why others might not. The plot is basically the same every time (some loon trying to end the world) and, agreed, the last two or three have been way too long. I do, though, think Craig has been fantastic in the role but, again, I appreciate comparisons are superfluous because each Bond and each film in the franchise is of its time.
As an aside, we went to see it in a lovely little twin screen cinema in Rye that's "no popcorn" and "no adverts". A joy!

An early Sunday morning trip to the cinema for me today to finally get to see DC's final outing as 007. At 163 minutes, director Cary Joji Fukunaga certainly packs a lot into the 25th installment of the Bond franchise and the early morning viewing was definitely worth it. With DC's tenure, I haven't loved all of his Bond outings. Casino Royale and Skyfall being his best and with QoS being the film I really didn't like and one of the weakest in the entire franchise. Spectre was a mixed bag but was better than QoS. So where does NTD fit in? I'd say as good as it, it wouldn't nudge CR or SF from the top tier, but is far superior to his last 2 films in my opinion.
As his last film it certainly ties up the running themes and narrative nicely that been part of DC's films and has a lot of nods in its tone and score (Hans Zimmer really did provide a belting score in NTD) to OHMSS which works really well the way Craig has portrayed Bond. DC has had a mixed reception as JB. Whilst, I think a lot of the humor that has been a staple in pre-DC 007 films seems to have been lost in his portrayal. Though I was glad some was preset here. There was a nice balance in making Bond both the cold-blooded assassin as well as times making him have more emotion. It was also nice to see a return of the DB5 and more use of the Q-Department's gadgets which for me have been sorely lacking recently.
Aside from DC, Ben Wishaw had his best outing as Q here and I loved the scene set in his flat. Rami Malek as Safin certainly provided a worthy adversary to Bond.
Whilst the title songs haven't all been great to listen to (I have only really liked Adele's Skyfall), Billie Eilish and her brother have written and produced a decent song here and worked well with a great video.
With fantastic locations, amazing stunts and plenty of twists and turns in the plot giving those WOW moments, the wait for this film has been worth it overall.
Having watched MCU's Shang-Chi last week which was a decent film in itself (Ben Kingsley was just great in this), it's been a decent return to the cinema, and with plenty of stuff being released for the rest of the year that I'm planning on seeing - Dune, Venom 2, Spiderman No Way Home, Eternals and House of Gucci it is going to be a busy couple of months.

Watched it this afternoon and enjoyed it (certainly preferable to Spectre) but it was far too long and the villain was just a wet weekend (not helped by both him and the scientist having terrible Eastern European accents, I struggled to understand Remi Maleks closing lines, and the scientist sounded like he was the illegitimate love child of Borat and one of the Mario brothers). I enjoyed Craig’s run in this series and it was good that the storyline had some continuity over the five film s but he’s picked a good time to go and left at a dignified age: no shots of him in his trunks this time round (I hope this doesn’t qualify as a spoiler)
I also enjoyed Lashana Lynch’s appearance, I suppose it’s possible she gets a spin-off film but I’m presuming once Craig gets replaced, the series will get a reset cast wise (although Judi Dench did bridge the Brosnan and Craig years, and pictures of her and Bernard Lee can be spotted in this).
