2/7 guessed then 😂 Becky Lock not old enough but I guess ok for a concert, and I did wonder about Sam Spiro. Just all feels a bit...expected (i know I wanted a couple of these women but I wondered if they'd go for some bigger/different names?) She's certainly old enough! Rose had young children at the start of the show!
The role is generally played by grande dames who are frankly too old for the part!

That's another £84 I'll be keeping hold of then! I saw Caroline O'Connor as Rose in Leicester about a decade ago, so I'll stick with the memory of her 😁
Wasn't she superb? I saw her many times! She was definitive for - certainly better than Staunters!
(and Victoria Hamilton Barritt was the best Louise I've ever seen too!)

I bet no-one had Keala Settle on their Gypsy bingo card.
I havent heard the name Nicola Hughes for a very long time. Wasn't Tommy her big break in the West End?

She was also Shug in The Color Purple I remember she took over from Ute Lemper in Chicago (back when it was good!) and then went on to feature in Fosse.

I loved Nicola Hughes in Chicago. She and Maria Friedman were one of the most interesting pairs to do Velma and Roxie early in the run. As for Gypsy? Who's going to win the fight to do Rose's Turn??? The Funny Girl concert in New York gave all its leading ladies a chance to bring different aspects of Fanny's character to the stage. Rose is a trickier one to get right, as she needs to build steadily towards that climax and with such diverse performers how do you build dramatic tension. Could be an interesting night...

I can see them giving Tracie Bennett one of the two big numbers (probably Everything's Coming Up Roses).
Don't know why but I've got a sneaking suspicion Keala will be Roses Turn

I can see Tracie Bennett doing Some People, rather than Everything... who's going to be stuck with Small World? Not exactly the most exciting of songs in Gypsy

I love Nichola Hughes and can’t wait to see her in this. We haven’t seen enough of her onstage in my opinion.

I would honestly just prefer to have a Tracie Bennett-led Gypsy on its own. I would kill to see her sing this score. She will definitely get one of the big 3 numbers... Can easily see them give her Rose's Turn. The other names are a bit meh.

I suspect she will get a big number, but her voice is sounding rough these days. You could drive a truck through that vibrato and it feels forced like sandpaper. I know she has masses of fans but her number in Follies was hard to listen to. She was fantastic in She Loves Me though.

Having already booked, I'm intrigued how this will work. I've seen shows where there are three different actors in one role as the character ages but never seven.
My understanding is that it's a staged concert version, presumably with the other roles each taken by one performer, but a different Rose for each of her songs. Rose ages during the show so logically the casting should reflect that. I wonder if some of Rose's musical numbers will be sung as duets or more ?
Several of the best known songs are performed by or include Louise/June/Herbie in the show, including my personal favourite Louise's Let Me Entertain You, but so far no mention who will perform these roles.

Seth Rudetsky did a Funny Girl about twenty years ago with several different Fanny Brices including Lillias White and (I think) Ana Gasteyer, isn't that correct? This model has been done many times, so I'm sure it will follow that pattern whatever way it works...
Who are the three best singers (or most Rose-like singers) of the bunch? They will get the three big numbers. Tracie has to be one of them. Keala and Sally Ann maybe? I could see Spiro doing Mr. Goldstone or Together Wherever We Go. Bennett may be left to close either act with Everything's Coming... or Rose's Turn.
Rose's seven numbers, by the way: Some People Small World Mr Goldstone You'll Never Get Away From Me Everything's Coming Up Roses Together Wherever We Go Rose's Turn

Do you think they’ll be off book for their whole song? 😬

Hopefully a precedent hasn’t been set in that respect 😐.
I have to say, as much as I love the show, I don’t see how this “bunch of Roses” concept is going to add anything to the proceedings.

Decided to book for this. What are the sightlines like at this theatre? From photos online, it looks like the stalls are on a flat floor? I've booked for row L to get some extra legroom. Hopefully any sound issues reported from Sunset has been resolved too. Looking forward to hearing that overture!

I've only been once but yes, the front Stalls are flat. I was in H1 for A Christmas Carol and it was completely fine but I am tall 😁

I have a ticket booked, but I would honestly much rather see one of these women take on the role, preferably Tracie Bennett as I want to see how Judy Garland would've played Rose lol. Seriously though, I want to see her sing this score so bad - I wonder have we any inkling as to who's singing what? Also, who gets what acting scenes - e.g. the big dressing room scene, and then will it be someone else singing Rose's Turn straight after?
