Who exactly is the market for Beetlejuice in the U.K.? I suppose it should be me and my peers given the age of the film but I’ve never heard anyone ever talk about it in the last 30 years let alone express a desire to see it done with songs. Isn't that the same for all the 80s/90s movies that have been and are being rehashed as musicals? Mark already mentioned Heathers, there's also Mean Girls, Mrs Doubtfire, Tootsie, Back to the Future and probably a dozen more that don't even scream stage adaption the way that string of popular 80s dance movies (Flashdance, Footloose, Dirty Dancing...) did. They're cashing in on the nostalgia of a generation who grew up with all of those movies and would much prefer to revisit some of those classics than brand-new musicals that are either dire to begin with or just don't appeal much. I mean, I'm a classic 80s gal and while I can easily acknowledge the brilliance of Hamilton in terms of how the story has been built, the clever lyrics and the diverse casting... I just don't care to see it again. Same with Come From Away, it had me in tears when I saw it live and it had me in tears again when I saw the filmed Broadway version on Apple+ now and I think it's a wonderful little show, but... just nothing that I'd care to see again and again. And it does seem like they have found ways to make the old stuff appealing to a new generation. Heathers the Musical isn't quite as dark as the movie, but still speaks to every female teenager who ever felt like an outsider at school and appreciates a strong assertive female lead. Beetlejuice the Musical did right (I think) in shifting the focus from the newly dead Maitlands (as the movie did) to teenage Lydia, coping with the loss of her mother and her distanced father, thus again speaking to a new young generation (while still not alienating the older generation for whom there's plenty to enjoy). There are plenty of movies I hadn't seen in many years recently, which something or other got me wanting to see them again, like not long ago the news that someone wanted to turn The Outsiders into a musical or the noise Tom Cruise is making over the Top Gun sequel. Bring it all on, I say, I'd much rather see these than any of the dire new stuff of recent years that's either obsessed with being woke or doesn't contain a single memorable tune or both.

Oh it's definitely nostalgia but some of those like back to the future and Mrs doubtfire are much more widely loved than beetlejuice which never seems to get talked about much.

Wowza! The set is the big draw for me above anything else; but the show seems really strong.

I can almost guarantee this will now come to the West End. No, I don't actually know anything, it's just that I'm planning a trip to New York and was going to see it again, and whenever I make those sort of plans it usually turns up in London.

Read a rumour that theatres are being scouted for a potential West End transfer in 2023. Word on the street is that the title role is going to be one of the most contested leads in quite some time, but I would imagine Plan A would be to drive a dumptruck full of money to Alex Brightman's apartment to try and convince him to transfer as well.

Why would they do that when absolutely no one outside of theatre knows who he is?

We already have a wealth of people that could smash this role. Nathan Amzi? Simon Lipkin?

Anyone who knows who Alex Brightman is are the kind of people who would buy a ticket to Beetlejuice regardless of who’s in the role.

Was watching a YT vid earlier where somebody alluded to having an unsuccessful audition for Beetlejuice recently!
Is this coming very soon, scoopers?

Heart basically stopped seeing activity in this thread lol According to the reliable Mr B plans aren't really there for now but I heavily suspect that London will come, eventually, because they've been really stingy about releasing anything related to the Beetlejuice musical abroad. No records or merch, press, anything like that. Usually if plans are just over you see the Broadway album come over pretty quick or in tandem with transfer news. They also recently put out the rights for the kiddie JR version you can license for schools and the page just rules out all European and UK licensing for the future. The pages don't even exist on European MTI. And the rights for the regular show don't even list an approximate date for European release, only American release. The marketing push for the new film over here as well as the big flashy premiere that happened has me wondering if they're gunning for renewed interest in the property for 2025, where maybe it'd go somewhere mid-sized. They've been experimenting with changing scales for the US tour which has visited slightly smaller venues so I reckon it could fit somewhere. Possibly after the planned Australian premieres. Warner Bros really like the US-West End-Australia trifecta for some reason as with Charlie
Just a matter of waiting I think. But I need this show more than ever !!
