I thought the best sung song and most impactful one was his I Don't Care Much

Listened to the YouTube sound bootleg of some of the numbers.... I've seen amateur versions that sound much better than this. Redmayne's diction is abysmal, and Buckley the least interesting Sally I've ever heard. Glad I didn't splash out on a ticket.

It's definitely an in context thing (which is probably why we've not had a cast recording) - can confirm it is electric in the room and the definition of a showstopper There is a cast recording on the way, from what I've heard. Any confirmation, anywhere? I suspect they would have actually recorded it by now, especially with this cast leaving in a few days.

No, no definitive confirmation. Just heard from someone who went to the trailer recording that they did record it all

I was at the trailer recording and they were playing a soundboard recording and not a cast recording tbh. Which doesn't mean they haven't recorded one tho!

Given that we've seen no trailer as of yet, and even the new cast has been announced, wouldn't be surprised that the trailer stuff was for an album release.

I’m thrilled that we might be getting a new cast recording. This productions sits amongst the likes of Oklahoma! and Company recently which have received major new productions with different approaches to the original. I would think if Eddie and Jessie aren’t featured then the hopes of a new recording are slim though. I really hope it’s coming.

So piqued with curiosity I had a search on YT First one that came up she seemed flat for the first three lines. At the end she broke off the big finish mid ‘...ret...!!!’ Is that how she usually finishes it? 🤔😬

And given how she uses that voice in other sections of the title track, we know she has the note. It’s a character choice and it was stunning.

I could actually see Jessie releasing an album in due course as her profile grows and recording can be done around vocal rest etc.
I could also see her doing a tour if there was the demand or certainly a London show, she'd probably need to prove her voice would hold up to 15 plus songs a night for a promoter to back her tour but if the run wasn't too long and she found songs which didn't strain her range I could see it happening.

But if we generally agree that it doesn’t work out of context is it the correct choice for the cast album? Anyone who hasn’t seen it but who buys the recording is going to think it’s a right load of pants!

I guess that’s why you need to see the show rather than listen to some shonky illegal bootleg recording... I personally thought the song sounded interesting but wondered about the end. Would’ve loved to see it.

It's different hitting the note and sustaining it for the big finish. I had a listen to it yesterday and actually thought she was having vocal trouble.

I see that YouTube channel AC563 has uploaded the whole thing. “Shonkey bootleg” or not, the vocal style and intent of the performances is very apparent. Are we really raving at the extremely average Maybe This Time because she breaks down a bit at the end? Please. Really! And Eddie’s Tomorrow Belongs To Me sounds like he’s taking the piss out of the German accent by doing that glottal throat thing. As much as I think there is a huge dollop of Emperors New Clothes about this, I’d love to see it. It seems so unashamedly “anti” that it might resolve my problems with the Will Youngs, Sam Barks, Louise Redknapps and Wayne Sleeps of this world. The costumes look fab too. Sadly I can see right through the Emperors string vest and I’m not paying those prices so I’ll have to pass.

Are we really normalising analysis of performances from a bootleg audio recording? I had problems with Jessie Buckley's performance after the first preview (and I still had problems when I saw it again recently though perhaps my expectations were better managed). But I just find it absurd that now the pendulum has swung from the thought it was the greatest performance evarrrrrr to now something that should be embarrassing. I don't think it was embarrassing, and I do think for whatever the flaws those that didn't see the production missed out!!

I’d totally see it if I could get an advance booking (I have to travel) good seat with legroom for under £75. I’m a reasonable man so I can pass on the charcuterie board and embarrassing phone interaction.

Yeah, this thread is profoundly anti-Buckley nowadays. Great production either way!

It’s really interesting to read comments in the first few pages of this thread which had Eddie Redmaybe as very much the “risk” in this show. Go take a look.

Buckley’s career will continue to rise. Her return engagments, I’m guessing, will be plays and not so musical. Either way, she is a once in a generation talent. Her performance in Cabaret was the most electric artistic expression and the best thing I’ve seen on stage in 30 years of theatre going. I understand the frustration of having missed her, but I will treasure my experience in the Kit Kat Club. In other news: any idea if posters or window cards are being sold? Only programmes when I visited, and I would love a poster with the current cast’s names on it before they wrap up this Saturday. I've heard this term a few times lately on this forum, albeit in different threads. "Special" "once in a generation". I really don't know where this hyperbole comes from. I've seen special performances from brilliant performers in the right shows at the right time. But Buckley a "once in a generation" talent? Sorry, I strongly disagree.

They have great leg room and a shelf for drinks as I've on seat plan.
