Ok, so it isn't "star" casting, but I'd say it's certainly "talent" casting. And for me, who literally had to sit in one of the worst seats in the theatre in order to see it, it might be nice to be able to afford and sit in a better seat and see the show far better the second time, if tickets become a bit cheaper and easier to get. Absolutely. I'm hoping the pricing is adjusted appropriately. I fear it won't be. |

People have been paying £250 for an unknown cast for months now, there would surely be uproar from these people if there was a reduction across the board.

I suppose it depends how much of your ticket price is paying for the theatre refurb. It must be the biggest restoration levy in the history of the west end.

They paid for Eddie Redmayne - they got Eddie Redmayne. Hasn't even missed a show, has he? I mean the people booking for the dates post-Redmayne which have been on sale for months - many of which seem to be sold out. |

I haven't tried to book, does the website clearly tell you at the point of sale that Redmayne won't be appearing if you book beyond his leaving date? |

Moulin Rouge is exhorbitant without any name and it seems too be selling well. So maybe no name would work. Is it the same production as the one with Will Young a few years ago. Very dark.

Celtic Cabaret! They probably won't use their own accents but a Scottish Sally Bowles and Irish MC could be a fun combination.

Different production - brand new by Rebecca Frecknall. Moulin Rouge sort of a different beast as it as a title is much more well known in the general population because of the enormous success of the film |

My friend's ticket from the cancellations has been moved to this cast so I've booked to join him (though only in a £30 seat!) I'm excited for the show and loved that you can see the band from the upper circle, I missed them in my stalls seat last week!

I’ve wanted to see Fra Fee in something again since The Ferryman, and was disappointed when Breakfast on Pluto fell through, but I can’t really justify a repeat visit to this unless the dynamic pricing goes the other way.

Amy Lennox and Fra Fee are both experienced theatre actors with a background in musicals who have also demonstrated their skills outside of the musicals arena. In a way they're similar to some of the early replacements in the 1998 Broadway revival which cast theatre actors rather than names as the MC and Sally (though Jennifer Jason Leigh was a noticeable exception to that). Although the original cast stayed around longer in that case - and arguably Redmayne is a bigger name than either Natasha Richardson or Alan Cumming were then. Also at the moment the show is riding high on good reviews, and likely awards, not only for the cast but for the production/experience as a whole, so may well continue to do well in the short term, albeit with some reduction in ticket prices.
Also it's possible that they'll get a higher profile third cast as a name may not want to be known as the person who replaced Eddie Redmayne (not least because if the box office was to tank it would reflect badly - and at the moment the only way it can go is down!).
I guess the calibre of future cast replacements may well depend on how much time Rebecca Frecknall and her original creatives are willing to spend putting in the cast, as it's unlikely that any true A lister is going to want to work mainly with a resident director, no matter how good the resident is, with Frecknall only coming in and doing a bit of tweaking at the end, and she's hot property herself at the moment. If they are going to go down the cast change every three months route I suspect that she's going to become increasingly hands off.

Frecknall has another big thing lined up already. The Gatsby thing with Florence Welch. I'm sure she'll be involved with this cast, to ensure the strength of the production remains, but seems unlikely after that.

This show will close in weeks with this new cast.
People won’t pay the kind of prices that they’ve been charging and they will simply not get ‘star’ names in for the 2nd re-cast. It just doesn’t work like that.
This casting is a bold move that will backfire on them if they think it will continue to be a sell out show.
No disrespect to Fra F and Amy L, they are great. But they ain’t ‘stars’.

Having been lucky enough to see Eddie and Jessie in this, I must say, if they keep their sky high pricing, I'll understand raised eyebrows. I'm sure the new cast's interpretation will be different and amazing in equal measure, however...
That said, this was very much a production sold on its two leads, so time will tell if it will progress successfully
Would I have been happy going to Hello Dolly in NYC with Bette Midler and then find out she wasn't on, or I'd have been rebooked to a performance without her, I'll be honest, I'd have been be very disappointed (thank goodness she was on)
On a lighter note, when the announcement was made, my friend text me and said, OMG, it's Annie Lennox!!! When I checked, I suggested she put her glasses on. Sweet Dreams Are Made of This

It's a quality show and Fra and Amy are great, but the prices are beyond outrageous. They got away with it with star casting but I don't think people will pay £250 for a seat when Eddie And Jessie depart. The show will hopefully survive and thrive but it will have to seriously reduce ticket prices to do so. |

This production was initially cast with 2 big name leads, but they have been very upfront and honest in the online booking. There is a big box that says there will be a new cast from mid March and you have to acknowledge that before buying a ticket. It doesnt say there will be big name replacements. It doesn't say anything at all. If people have bought expensive tickets and EXPECTED some amazing big name replacements, thats their problem.
Same with people complaining that Jessie was out the night they went. You paid for a ticket, agreed to the terms and conditions saying that no person is guaranteed to be performing on any given date, and still think they should be given a refund when a certain performer isnt on.
If you're going to spend big bucks on a ticket, at least know what you're getting for it, which includes the possibility of understudies.

Seats are available from £30. If you cant justify £30 for a theatre ticket, maybe save the money for something important. My personal preference is to always try to sit as near to the stage as possible. I just don’t enjoy things the same from afar, so I could pay £30 to sit in the back row of the Upper Circle but I know I would hate it. |
