To clarify I’ve seen a seating plan and know that Row C is a continuous row with a bar type long “shelf” in front of it to put your drink on. The row behind has seats in twos and tables again.

My question is what the actual seats are as my experience of table seating in the West End is that there is a wide variety of comfort levels

james1969 I sat on row C when I went on Saturday night. I was near the end, but from what I could see it was one unbroken row of seating, on chairs rather than normal theatre seats. Every two seats have a little table in between, with a lamp and a telephone, so that the whole row sort of forms pairs (even though they’re not sold as such.) There is a bit of a gap between row C and the tables and chairs in front, which was used by a some of the supporting cast a couple of times, but mostly by FOH staff scurrying about before the show and during the interval. In terms of comfort I found I was just starting to get a little bit fidgety by the end of each act.

I thought this production was excellent. I've never seen Cabaret on stage before so have nothing to compare it to except the movie and of course having read about and listened to previous productions' recordings.

Loved Eddie Redmayne, got the sense that he was fully committing to the character completely and at times he was somewhat unrecognisable. Jessie Buckley was perfect too, definitely perfect casting (and I was doubtful about Redmayne when first announced).

The rest of the cast are exceptional, except I do think Omari Douglas was terribly miscast. I think he's a very good actor, but I just didn't believe him as Cliff at all. The role just didn't suit him.

I enjoyed the immersive nature of the show, it's incredibly well-directed and hard-hitting. It's definitely a temporary prestige piece of theatre and not a long-runner. I'd hate to see it go on for too long and become tired and watered-down over time.

Thankfully the cabaret stage has more tricks than just a plain wooden platform, so the lack of sets was made up for by the various rises/falls/trapdoors etc so it at least had some spectacle.

On the venue itself, great service, lovely staff etc BUT you really do feel like you're in the playground of the rich, rather than a seedy Berlin dive. Drinks were incredibly expensive, even by theatre standards, and everything was high end rather than standard and affordable in terms of offerings. Even programmes were £15. It's a bit ironic given the content of the show.

Would recommend seeing it, but given ticket prices I'm sad that from this point until the cast change, only the privileged can.

It made me think how interesting an immersive production would be if it didn't have the bells and whistles of a "star" cast. Like imagine it in a small, intimate off-west-end venue, where you really feel like you're in the Kit Kat Club. No flowing champagne or premium spirits. Just cheap drinks and worn-out decor.

Tom Hardy as the MC anyone?

I saw a production when I was a teenager in my home town (a town very much skint and on its uppers) and loved that, even though it was a near am-dram cast and no budget. 

I suspect he might be being Magwitch at the moment (yes, they're making yet another 'Great Expectations')
