For a VERY different role. It’s called acting. I once saw Tom Hanks in a film play a soldier. Another time I saw him as a simpleton Of course, but (and it seems I'm not alone on this) from our experience of her performances so far, it doesn't feel that she will fit this role requirement. I've thoroughly enjoyed her perform many times, but I still wouldn't want to see her play Sally in Cabaret. There's a reason why certain actresses get seen (and potentially cast) in certain roles. This feels more like they are just trying to cash in on her recent public eye for sales. Happy to be proven wrong when the time comes.

Well if you’re not going to see it then don’t worry- it’s not going to be forced upon you. Lot of negativity for lots of people on this forum - people aren’t nice nowadays are they?

Hey, we might all be wrong and they'll be great and I'll eat humble pie happily then

Hey, we might all be wrong and they'll be great and I'll eat humble pie happily then Same. I don't think of it as negativity as Cornish said, though if that is the case then I apologise. It was more to spark the conversation about such a drastic change in the casting brackets for these two roles. I don't think we've seen such a shift since the production opened. It's interesting.

I’ve booked - they’re clearly proving somewhat ‘marmite’ on here but I love Marisha and am intrigued to see how OTT Billy goes with Emcee so am going in early Feb.
This’ll be my first return visit since seeing it in Jan ‘22 with Eddie and Jessie - that time from the ‘rear’ stalls, and this time I’ve booked the dress on the ‘main’ side of the auditorium so as to get a completely different perspective on it.

To be fair “Don’t see it then” is the absolute rock bottom of cogent arguments. We discuss casting. Many people are being supportive, others have concerns. That’s how it is.

Kind of agree with most of the thoughts above.
Totally unconvinced that these two have either the acting chops or subtlety to do these roles justice. (Though happy to be proved wrong)
Totally get why producers have done it though. What year we in now? Either way it's bums on seats and getting the masses in phase of the production and the Cabaret MT mega fans and people who want to see the likes of the sensational Amy Lennox etc have already been.
A perceived cheapening of a production from the MT geeks often correlates to an uptick in actual financial revenue for it. It's hardly the first show to follow this path....
And whatever you think of her (I think she's a great singer but not right for every-role-going) Marisha is doing a good job of moving from MT only consciousness into the general public realm. #CelebBigBrother etc.

I'll probably try and get tickets at a sensible price - I didn't bother for Rhea Norwood and Layton Williams - they didn't interest me - two MT kids too young for the role. These two are older and will bring 'something' to it whether good or bad remains to be seen - but it will be interesting to see. I have a friend obsessed with Billy Porter and had been waiting for the announcement to get tickets - she'll be there in the first week. I'll probably go later in the run.

I agree with this, no idea if it will work but I love that they are trying different things.
