Love him in other dancing things, but still cannot see Danny Mac as Joe

I do hope they have a bit more set for this than the recent Broadway production!

I do hope they have a bit more set for this than the recent Broadway production! As this is a David Ian Production, not ENO's, I imagine the orchestra won't be on stage for UK tour, so the set is likely to be quite different.

Based on a rehearsal photo Danny Mac just posted on instagram it looks like the staircase may be a set piece that is moved on and off

I look forward to seeing Dougie Carter as Joe should Mr Mac be indisposed. He is, by all accounts, rather talented.

really excited to hear news about this! Here's hoping for a highly successful tour... perhaps there will be a US tour or a return to the West End (ala the recent Evita return)

I think a US tour might be difficult. Sunset Boulevard is a much bigger brand in the UK than it is in the US, as it became apparent since the ENO. It did well in its recent revival, but it heavily depended on Glenn Close. You can partially say the same thing about the London revival, but Ria Jones is a noteworthy West End performer and got very interesting press during the ENO run, so she's a bit more marketable.
Remind me when it opens at the Curve again? I'm seeing it late Sept.

Glad I held back on booking tickets. Have just had an email from ATG with a flash sale including half price tickets at Manchester. Perfectly timed with payday

You must be on a special list, Richey! if you go to the website and enter your card number as if you were going to buy the seats, you'll see the discounts available you don't necessarily need to click through from an email

Worth mentioning that Jay Records is releasing a double title Evita/Sunset Boulevard studio cast recording with Ria Jones as Norma, Matt Bogart as Joe, and Laura Pitt-Bulford as Betty. Not sure who is singing Max. Not sure who is in the Evita tracks. End of September.

Matt Bogart as Che, Laura Pitt-Pulford as The Mistress and whoever is singing Max as Peron?

^ It's not a cast recording. It's just a studio recording akin to those they did a lot in the '90s where'd they'd assemble a studio cast with no association to a staged version.

Sounds ace! I wonder whether they'll use the original orchestrations or any of the newer updates seen with the recent London/Broadway productions. I'd love a 'b-side' instrumental version of SB!

Really glad this is happening and will be interested to check it out (although have to say the ones they did in the 90s had some shocking orchestrations and sounded very cheap).
Quick question though - would they not need RUGs permission to do this? If so am surprised they've got it, is normally very hard.
Most recently the German production of Love Never Dies (the European launch of the Australian version) wished to make a cast CD (as Stage Operettenhuas do for all their big productions) but RUG would not allow it.

I believe they recorded it in May 2016 - right after Sunset closed at the ENO. There was enough press about Ria Jones, and more than likely RUG didn't expect a NY revival... very interesting - now that a UK tour with Ria Jones is imminent... but that means no Cast recording from that tour

Interesting. With the exception of Facebook, all the social media links on the UK Tour website lead to the International Sunset Boulevard pages, so all the content is Broadway-based "Last Week..." / "Final Performance..." etc. Someone needs to get updating their website.

I must say Sunset is my favourite of all ALW scores. Have seen it multiple times, the last being with Glenn at the Colisseum.Have to say Petula Clark has been my favourite Norma. Her acting and vocals when she was in her prime in the 1990s were sublime. She is the one who has played Norma the most over the years including a long spell at the Adelphi plus toured with it in USA.

It's one of the only ALW shows I don't know and want to have a listen before I go in a few weeks.

I think we've had the "best recordings" conversation several times. Unfortunately there really isn't a perfect recording. The LA one is okay enough, it's the complete score, and all the leads are strong enough, with exception to Glenn Close who only works if you see her live. The London cast recoding is so badly engineered at times, it isn't the final version of the show, and the cuts are so strange. Patti LuPone's vocals are supreme. The Betty Buckley EP is gorgeous, and she's got the best vocals of all of them, but it's not complete.
I've said this once and I'll say it again- Andrew Lloyd Webber should have commissioned a London recording with either Betty Buckley or Elaine Paige opposite John Barrowman. That combination was the best one of all casts.
