The cars do look a bit odd out of context but when they are framed by the film crews as if shooting movie footage they do work quite well.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but on the website it states Danny Mac is only doing the 2017 dates?

It was announced yesterday that Danny Mac is doing most of the 2018 dates apart from a few weeks around January. I'm assuming his understudy will play the role for those weeks
The only dates for the whole tour that Danny is NOT appearing in are:
Bristol Hippodrome 9th - 13th Jan 2018
Southampton Mayflower 16th - 20th Jan 2018
Woking New Victoria 22nd - 27th Jan 2018
Also 26th February 2018

Got round to looking up these rehearsal snaps.
It looks cheap.
I laughed out loud at Joe driving a dodgem, with a blurry projection behind him.
BUT Danny Mac certainly looks the part, if nothing else. I can see why he was cast.
Why is Ria Jones mugging for the camera, does she do this much "acting" in the show?

Yes, just seen the pictures myself. A far cry from the Adelphi production, but hey guess there are budgets to be met. I agree that Danny looks the part.

Danny Mac is appearing in Cinderella at the Birmingham Hippodrome until 28th January 2018. A well paid panto gig on the back of his Strictly success last year. He was cast in this before Sunset so always unavailable for January.

I dont understand the dodgem car look. Surely it would have been more effective and cheaper to just have the front view of the car so we see Joe behind the windscreen at the steering wheel.

It will not be worth re-casting for 3 weeks so I suppose his understudy will play the role. The news is that he is picking up the tour again from February which was not clear originally on the website.

I dont understand the dodgem car look. Surely it would have been more effective and cheaper to just have the front view of the car so we see Joe behind the windscreen at the steering wheel. I just don't get the *vision* behind it. Like, what is meant to be - or represent? It is a fairly literal moment. There's nothing abstract or metaphorical about it which requires him to be a bumper car. It just looks stupid and needs to be changed, because people will make fun of it and laugh. Going off on a tangeant, as I always do, it reminds me of The Unbrellas of Cherbourg at the Curve. There were SO many hilariously bad moments, but they all (eventually) got changed before London. The giant white knickers Guy holds up triumphantly after scoring with Genivieve, the awkward snogging on a perilous slide... I mean, the rest of it was still terrible but they got rid of the bits with the unintentional laughter. Surely every show report right now will read "laughter from audience in car scene". Then the director reads it. And changes it. Even if it means asking the producer for a bit more money...

Surely just a bit of cardboard with the illusion of a car painted on it would be better than what they have now.
The Adelphi production was more random and had the odd tyre and headlight appear in boxes on the set. Am i remembering that correctly??

The CRH show did it all with lights, and it was effective.

Yes, it was kind of like an advent calender of snapshots of the car, the chase, and those driving.

Yeah, and a window with the traffic light in it, and finally a window with the spinning car wheel and the tyre blowing. Oh man, I loved that set.

The CRH show did it all with lights, and it was effective. I seem to remember the UK tour ~2001 in Manchester, two headlights on a bar on wheels. It was all really stripped back but effective. Sometimes its better to leave parts to the imagination rather than trying to fill in every box.

Sorry but Ria Jones looks dreadful. Horrible costumes and the set is cheap. I'll pass.
