As I won't have been vaccinated when the ROH re-opens, and so won't be able to attend, I'm very pleased to see they'll be opening the ballet with Within The Golden Hour and two Pite works: I was lukewarm about the former and, after spending one of the longest half an hours I've ever spent in a theatre suffering Flight Pattern, have no desire to ever again see anything by Pite! As for La Clemenza di Tito, I find that depends so much on the production. I've found it gripping, dull, and several variations in between when seeing various different live and recorded productions.

I'm really missing the ROH but I can't see any of this tempting me back. The one thing that might have, the Weill, is online only. La Clemenza di Tito is not top-drawer Mozart; I've tried many times over the years with live performances, even including the great Janet Baker, but I've always found it pretty turgid (plus it's directed by the overrated Richard Jones.) And, regarding ballet, I'm with Dawnstar - anything by Crystal Pite is a complete yawnathon. Also, with social distancing, I can't see there being many affordable seats. They'll have a token few which will be snapped up immediately.

I cam recommend the Weill double bill more so for the quality of music making - the orchestrations sound amazing.
I would say Sins is the stronger of the two productions. Given the choice of this or the recent Opera North production I would plump for the ON take.

I must relook at the season again but I’ve also not continued my membership. It looked dull.

I've spent a truly horrendous amount of money on Royal Ballet tickets. Now I have to hope covid rates will be low enough for me to actually attend any of the performances I've booked. I've not booked any opera performances however. Either the directors put me off (Rigoletto, Jenufa, Macbeth) or the casts don't include any singers I'm interested enough in to re-see productions I've already seen (Zauberflote, Traviata). Also is it just me or is it, with the exception of Zauberflote, a really depressing selection of operas?

I’ve never been to the Royal Opera House before, was tempted to give it a go with Romeo and Juliet, having seen the version that was on TV a couple of years ago.
Just tried to book and was presented with this message: “Identification is required to confirm eligibility for these tickets. Please present your identification along with your ticket.”
What’s that about? It doesn’t appear to be a concession or anything. I don’t actually have any official ID.

I got that message when I booked & have seen a number of comments on Twitter from people who also got it. I think everyone's ignoring it & booking anyway.

Yes, I saw that too when booking standard tickets, and ignored it...

I found the ROH terribly flat during the bubbling, no ones fault just the price for having less than half an audience, half an orchestra and a basic cast. But never mind all that - last night it was back, bouncing out the blocks, full to the rafters and fabulous!

Jenufa is now on Opera Vision (YouTube) free to watch and its truly amazing. Saw it live there a week or so ago - it really is one of the best things I've ever seen at ROH - fantastic cast. Incidentally it's really easy at the moment to get tickets for all productions (opera and ballet.) Things are not selling out and there's lots of cheaper seats available. I decided not to renew my Friends of Covent Garden priority booking until things fully settle down and I'm pleased I did as, at present, I would say there's no real advantage. However, the real test will be when Netrebko and Kaufmann grace The Garden with their presence later in the season.

I'm not interested in entering the ticket scrum for Netrebko or Kaufmann so that won't be a problem for me. In fact I don't find this season's operatic offerings particularly appealing as a whole. Which is probabl a good thing given the small fortune I'm spending on ballet tickets!

Macbeth has sold really well. Not too many dates, though.

Giselle last night. Ballet. I do so love act 2. Took me a while to put aside Akran Khan's interpretation but Federico Bonelli wonderful - as David Coleman used to say, he really opened his legs and showed his class ... Also, Myrtha and Berthe particularly enjoyable and accomplished. Not sure they pushed the boat out in design but the Wilis were pure and perfect and gloriously resolute! Proper opera house roaaaar at the end

I don't suppose anyone here has had any updates re refunds for cancelled performances over the festive period? I haven't chased them as they said to wait, but they are taking an awfully long time...

No, I'm still waiting. The Nutcracker performance I was due to attend was the first one to be cancelled so I would have though it would be at the front of the queue for refunds! Writing this on the train home from my replacement Nutcracker performance so at least I got to see it, though from a worse seat as due to the refund not having come through & the loss of the package booking discount I didn't feel I could spend as much.
