I know Bette wants to do 8 weeks while Scott Rudin wants to do 12 weeks. Couldn't they have Bette do the first eight then have Jane, Elaine, or Tracie do the last month? I'm pretty sure one of the three ladies could sell the Palladium for at least a month.

I doubt it would make much economic sense. |

I doubt it would make much economic sense. You're right I was just pitching a left field idea. I remember reading somewhere, I don't know if it true or not, that when Bette returned to do the last 5 weeks on Broadway part of her conditions was to have David Hyde Pierce, the production stage manager, and the music director all had to return as well. (They all left in January) So, she might have that same demand and Rubin is trying to workout all the kinks with trying to get the three of them over here as well. |

The American National Tour is currently in previews in Utica, New York. The cast has been cut down a little and it looks like they have a passerelle, I don't know if it is real or not. I've seen a naughty photo of Betty at the top of the stair case and honestly It took me a second to recognize her with the red wig but she looks great. Hello, Betty! |

Dolly with no passerelle is Phantom with no chandelier. However, it's a "fake" one they have on tour. The orchestra is apparently not in it and are in front of it.

The same MTAS page that posted the Layton Williams-Jamie rumour has posted a rumour that Bette will bring Dolly over to the Palladium next year but obviously we’ve heard this same “rumour” for months and months now!

I have to tell a story about Hello, Dolly! and this is probably the best place to tell it.
In the Winter of 1997 I was a freshman at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas. Carol Channing was doing her actual farewell tour of Hello, Dolly! and the last two stops were a split week run in Lubbock and Austin Texas. Well one of my friends was trying to get the rest of my friend group to see the show. I said no and that I wanted to go to the TTU basketball game instead so, I went to the game and I believe Tech lost.
Fast forward 21 years later to 2018 and I found out I missed one of Carol Channing's final performances ever as Dolly because she was ending her run that Saturday. I think that is a Theatre Sin.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but Hello, Dolly! with Donna Murphy was probably my favourite theatrical experience of all time. I know the material is old fashioned but nothing could compare to the atmosphere in the Shubert for this production. I saw Bernadette too and she was also excellent.
Gutted not to have seen Bette, and gutted it's not happening in London.

I'm in America visiting some family and we saw the Matinee in Dallas Texas today. It is my first time seeing this production and I really enjoyed it. I thought Betty Buckley was a lot better then posters on Broadwayworld were making her out to be. However, I did notice that she got tired after doing the titled number and her voice was slowly going horsed. The rest of the cast was on fire and I could tell they were still having fun after 300 shows.
The sets were really good, I think they are using most of the old Broadway set. One negative I could really find is the ensemble was thin. The production could have had more people in Sunday Clothes and Parade, and there were only two chefs in the titled number which was a disappointment.
Now, the audience. It was an older crowd but they acted like CHILDREN! Talking loudly during the Overture and the first part of the show in the southern draw. Only after a few dirty looks did they get the idea to be quite. Crackling water bottles throughout the show, even though I will kind of giving them a break because it was the hottest day of the year, so far. I counted 3 phones out to film Betty go down the stairs and the ushers did nothing. Finally, standing to leave during the final scene and Curtain Call to "Beat the Traffic."
All in all I had a good time and it is a good production. I just wish people learned how to read a room and know how to act in the theatre.

I caught the tour in Boston yesterday afternoon. I loved Buckley, she put her heart and soul into that part. She did seem very tired at the end of the title number mind! Very demanding role.
Nic Rouleau was the other clear standout, just wonderful I can definitely see him being a future Tony winner.
It’s a crying shame that this production hasn’t been given a West End outing, it’s one of the classiest productions of a musical I’ve ever seen and just pure joy from start to finish. Give it 30 years or so and I’m sure we will have a Kristin Chenoweth led revival.
