There was another thing on twitter from a different source that came up saying it was happening the other day which is exciting. I’m going tonight and couldn’t be more excited.

Word on the street is that EP has it in the bag 🙂 I hope that I’ve missed the humour in that... I’m sure Elaine Paige is wonderful, but Bette she is not. Nah I was kidding. It’s Barbra 🙂

This rumour has been doing the rounds since last year. It was rumoured to be going in this summer to the palladium well before king and I was announced...

Indeed and I’m sure it’s done no harm to The British Theatre Guide’s Page view numbers.

I think this could happen as a musical but not with Bette. She was on over 250k A WEEK! Maths wouldn’t work out over here for her as the lead. Someone else possibly. The producers could afford to pay Bette £250k a week, plus Marylebone/Mayfair apartment and car/driver. If the average ticket cost £200 and the London Palladium seats 2200, then this can gross potentially £3.5m a week. Some of the New York set can be used in the London Palladium, such as Horace Vandergelder hardware shop, the stagecoach, train and the grand staircase can all come over. Hello Dolly with Bette will break box office records and Bette will raise the roof. let's not get carried away...I think an average ticket cost of £200 is pushing it. Top price of £200? Yes, absolutely. Average price? No way. In 2016, the average ticket price in the West End was £44.99 (source, SOLT). If Hello Dolly at the Palladium happens it will be priced high, but not at the levels it is in New York.

Probably similar levels to Hamilton.
Whether Bette is on 250k a week or 100k a week, the main question is, does she WANT to do it? Because if she wants too, then surely they’d make it happen.

Charlie Stemp moving up to the role of Cornelius, perhaps? Cornelius is 32 in play. Adore Charlie but that would not work

Remember the Palladium is 50% as big again as the Schubert, so that will help cover Bette’s wages.
Just back from seeing the show tonight (having also seen it last year) and Bette has the crowd in the palm in of her hands all the way through. Great chemistry with David Hyde Pierce too. And the crowd burst into applause at the slightest things in the middle of songs. Will probably put more in a trip report.
Should transfer well.

Echoing Dr Tom’s thoughts - also there tonight. The cause of my trip to NY and so worth it. Bette really did have everyone eating out of the palm of her hand. The slightest raise of the eyebrow and the audience were in hysterics. Such a wonderful production, that I’d love to see in London.

There seems to be an upcoming US tour of Hello Dolly starring Betty Buckley, so perhaps this tour will do a London series of dates?

^ just to clarify, 49thand8th is confirming that there is a tour, but not specifically heading to London. Because that's what I thought when I read her post. And then went to the article and scanned it for over 10 minutes then arrived at this conclusion. Right?

If the tour was doing any London dates they'd refer to it as an International Tour, not a National one.

LOL I was reading what I wanted to believe. I saw Bette already and though I thought she was great, I also think the whole thing is extremely over-hyped and would love to see Buckley and Donna Murphy instead.

If Hello Dolly at the Palladium happens it will be priced high, but not at the levels it is in New York. No not getting carried away. Scott Rudin will use dynamic ticket pricing, same as he did in New York, he will try and push £450 for a top ticket, which will be 2/3 of the stalls and the first 8 rows of the Dress Circle, he will market that ‘it will be to see Bette for a strictly limited run’, the press will be all over it that a new high ticket price and that theatregoers are being highjacked, which all will sell more tickets and yes many people will pay that for Bette - and that is how I get the average price £200 and I think I was being a bit conservative. Scott Rudin is known to be one of the most machiavellian person in the industry. Guys you need to ring your bank manager and get them to raise your credit card limit.

If those prices come to pass, the world has officially gone insane.
I know where my money won't be going!!

Depends who producers a potential west end run, it doesn't necessarily follow that the Broadway producer would do London, or at least not just him

I'm nervous about a London production. I'm stressed by the mere possibility that the audience won't applaud the minute Dolly appears at the top of the stairs wearing the iconic red dress and feather, and won't have the natural instinct to applaud during her strut across the passerelle.

It's all subjective and guess it will only be answered when/if this happens, a nice problem to happen.

If they don't they should be escorted out of the building immediately. Or tasered. Or escorted out AND tasered. And maybe pistol whipped.

I know a national US tour, but 'could' make sense to add some London dates whilst touring:)
